Dallas Stars Power Countdown: 20 Days: Pevs & Camp Groups

facebooktwitterreddit

It’s officially Friday and the weekend has arrived! This post is earlier than usual, but with training camp starting in less than two hours, there is some important information that needs to get out. But still, today is training camp! The Dallas Stars first preseason game against the St. Louis Blues is just three days away, and the Dallas Stars are only 20 days away from opening their regular season up against the Chicago Blackhawks on October 9th at the American Airlines Center.

There is an update on Rich Peverley and his status for training camp. Peverley has been cleared to work out but is still not allowed to skate. Here is the article from the Dallas Stars beat reporter, Mike Heika, regarding the issue:

The Stars will start training camp on Friday, and while Rich Peverley will be around, there’s no real update on when (or if) he might be able to play hockey again.

Peverley collapsed on the ice after a cardiac event on March 3, and has not played since. He had ablation surgery March 18 at the Cleveland Clinic to correct an abnormal heartbeat and he has slowly been working himself back since then. He spent the summer in Ontario and worked out there, and he has been in Frisco for the past two or three weeks.

Peverley will continue to work off the ice and be around the team. He said he preferred Nill handle the questions today.

Here is what Nill said:

Q: What is Rich’s status as far as testing and availability for camp?

Nill: “He’s cleared to work out, but not cleared to go on the ice yet. He has to go to a cardiologist to be tested, and there’s no timeline on that right now.”

Q: What is the testing process? Has he been able to get his heart rate up?

Nill: “He’s been working at getting his heart rate up, and I think it’s a matter of seeing how far he can go, and how he feels.”

Q: Is there the chance that doctors tell him to stop at any point or to simply not attempt a comeback?

Nill: “I’m not sure on that. I think we’re all moving day to day and trying to see how far he can push it. We’ll have patience with Rich and support him and simply go through the process. So much of it is listening to the doctors and allow them to guide the process.”

The Dallas Stars also released their skating group combinations today, and here is how they look:
