Jason Spezza and Dallas Stars Agree to 4 Year Extension

Center Jason Spezza and the Dallas Stars have come to a contract extension that will keep Spezza a Star for the next four years, averaging $7.5 million each season. Through the first 20 games he has 18 points (4G, 14A), but he sports a point per game average on his NHL career overall.

The Dallas Stars acquired Spezza in return for Alex Chiasson this past summer and in doing so fulfilled their rather desperate need for a first or second line center. The re-signing was crucial to make the trade last summer worthwhile, being that he only had one year remaining on his contract coming into Dallas and the Stars gave up a rather promising player in return.

Thus far Spezza has met most expectations. He is one-third of the “super line” for the Stars that includes Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, a line that Head Coach Lindy Ruff has proven rather fond of. Moving forward Spezza can be expected to be seen playing lots of minutes and in most offensive situations.
