Dallas Stars Post Game Quotes After Riveting 4-1 Win

The Dallas Stars sure know how to put on a show. The team finished their derailed 2014-2015 campaign on a VERY high note. A 4-1 win against a Central Division rival. A hat trick for the Captain. An NHL award captured in the last 2:05 in miraculous fashion (I got a shirt from Jhonas too, but y’all probably don’t care about that).

But with the whimsical victory, the Dallas Stars will head into the offseason with their heads held high, grasping tightly to this thing called “hope” that they haven’t been able to constrain this season.

Here are a few post game quotes from Vernon Fiddler and the Captain himself, Jamie Benn:

Vernon Fiddler:

On Jamie Benn:

“He’s a first-class guy on and off the ice. There’s four other guys on the ice and everyone’s just getting it back to him. But at the end of the day, he’s a guy that gets the job done. It’s not easy to get more than a point a game in this league and outscore all the other guys, especially where he’s come from. He wasn’t a first-rounder or your top pick that was a shoo-in for the top scorer of the league. He’s worked for every inch he’s got and he definitely put himself out there with the top guys tonight.”

On their last 19 games:

“Well, we’ve committed to playing defense. We’re not cheating and we’re not looking for the cookies at the end of games. We get a lead, we become checkers. You look back to last year, that’s what we did. We didn’t ever cheat on the bad side of the puck and the last 18-19 games here, we really focused on that. That’s something we have to learn from. Next year, at the beginning of the year, we can’t give points away because you look at it now, we gave those points away and look where we are now. You’ve got to bank as many points as you can at the beginning of the year because at the end of the year, it’ll cost you.”

On if this win is a blueprint for next season:

“Well, yeah I hope so. I think we’re going to have most of the same team back. You hope they don’t make a bunch of changes because I think we’re really close. We’ve got a good bunch of young guys coming up-Cody Eakin, Klingberg, Seguin, Jamie Benn. These guys are very talented guys who have lots of character. When you have guys like that, you’re going to win more games than you’re going to lose. Hopefully we can build on that for sure.”

On the message to the fans:

“Yeah, you always want the fans leaving with a good taste in their mouth and you want them to want to come back. What more could you ask for than showing the Art Ross race on the big screen, people are chanting Jamie’s name and he scores a hat trick and at the end of it getting to win the Art Ross with eight seconds left. It’s a really good brand of hockey. We have to become a better team and we all got to be ready to take that next step.”

Jamie Benn:

On if he was thinking about the Art Ross late

“Not much, I was actually still trying to get the point there and if it happened, it happened.”

On how it felt to do this at home

“It felt good. It’s a little bittersweet because obviously we’re not in the playoffs. But it was pretty special to see your teammates work so hard for you.”

On sharing this with his teammates

“Yeah, like I said, my teammates gave a lot tonight and held the ice the last couple months and the whole year to get to the top, the scoring lead. I’ve got to thank them.”

On the season

“It’s a tough one. The No. 1 goal here is to make the playoffs and just give yourself a chance to win a Stanley Cup. We didn’t do that this year and it’s disappointing. It’s going to be a long summer, a lot of time to think. But at the same time, we got to get back to work pretty soon here because it is so hard just to get into the NHL Playoffs. We got a lot of hard work to do, to go.”

On the momentum this finish to the season gives the team

“I think not only this game, but the way we’ve been playing the last month or so, pretty good record. We seemed to find our game the last month or so and our goalies were playing great. We were committed to playing team defense.”

On Seguin’s role in this

“Yeah, he’s a big part of the success that I’ve had. Obviously we have great chemistry out there. He’s a heck of a hockey player. I’ve got to tip my hat to him too. He’s been a big part of this process.”
