Dallas Stars Taking NHL By Storm In All Categories

Now that the dust has finally settled from a jam-packed Saturday night that included some unbelievable Dallas Stars action, we can finally step back and examine the remains.

While there are many excellent qualities to look into and applaud the Stars for, there is one main message resonating throughout the NHL: the Dallas Stars are now in a three-way tie for first place in the entire NHL.

The Stars proved Saturday night that they truly are a force to be reckoned with and will not slow down or submit to any competition. The Stars defeated the Minnesota Wild to improve to 14-4-0 in 2015-2016. They also improved to 2-1-0 in Central Division play and have won two straight against interdivisional rivals.

Their victory over the Wild was one of their hardest-fought and most entertaining wins of the season. Playing the third best team in the tightly-contested Central Division, the Stars knew they were going to face a stacked team similar to their own.

“It was one heck of a hockey game,” Dallas Stars head coach Lindy Ruff told Mark Stepneski of Stars Inside Edge. He could not have said it much better.

The Stars took an early 1-0 lead in the first period after Jason Spezza tipped a shot from John Klingberg. This goal was equalized a period later by Nino Niederreiter. As the third period was still in its early minutes, Jamie Benn fired home a power play goal assisted by John Klingberg and Patrick Sharp to take the 2-1 lead. Minnesota would tie it up around five minutes later with a goal from Marco Scandella.

The game would eventually find its way into overtime where the Dallas Stars would click it into high gear and turn the tide in their favor for good. In the new 3-on-3 overtime format, the Stars found multiple chances to finish it and eventually did with 1:42 remaining in the extra period when John Klingberg tallied his third point of the night with the game winning goal.

The Dallas Stars are officially in a three-way tie for first place with the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers. They have one more win than both teams, though the Rangers have played one less game.

But these Stars are proving to be near unstoppable in all categories and are reassuring all NHL fans alike that they are legitimate contenders who could be preparing for a long playoff run this year.

Here are just a few of their statistics that are proving them to be the league’s best:

Top scorer: Tyler Seguin – 26 points (T-1st)

Top goal scorer: Jamie Benn – 12 goals (T-1st)

Record: 14-4-0 (most wins in league) with 28 points (T-1st)

Goals per game: 3.61 (1st)

Goals allowed per game: 2.61 (16th)

Shots for per game: 31.7 (1st)

Shots against per game: 30 (17th)

Total save percentage: .914 (11th)

Power play conversion percentage: 29.8% (2nd)

Penalty kill percentage: 80% (14th)

The statistics favor the Stars rather heavily. After an offseason filled with improvement in all three areas, the odds were certainly more in the Stars favor than in 2014-2015. But not many predicted that they would get out to this hot of a start. But there are still 64 games remaining in the regular season and a lot of things can happen.

But as of now, it is clear that the Dallas Stars cannot stop and will not stop. They run the league and show no signs of forfeiting their reign.
