The Dallas Stars held their exit interview day this past Friday in Frisco. Before heading out for the summer, we got a chance to catch up with forward Colton Sceviour. Catch the complete interview below.

It’s been three days since the Dallas Stars cleaned out their locker stalls and parted ways for the first time since October when the 2015-2016 regular season began.

This past Friday, the Stars hosted their yearly exit interview day. This gives the media one final chance to talk to players, coaches, and general manager before each goes to their own respective offseason dwelling spot.

You can catch some of the bigger names in the organization (Jamie BennTyler SeguinJim Nill, etc.) on the Dallas Stars website with video-recorded interviews (there is also a post on Blackout Dallas with all the links stashed inside it. Just click here).

But we decided to get a little more intentional and talk to as many different players as we could in order to gain multiple different perspectives on the season and offseason as a whole, as well as personal outlooks from each different member of the team.

27-year old forward Colton Sceviour finished up his second full season with the Dallas Stars this year, and it was another successful endeavor. Sceviour plays primarily as a fourth-line grinder for Dallas, only averaging 12:40 on the ice per game. That does not stop him from producing though. In 71 games this year, he scored 11 goals and tallied 12 assists (11-12-23), along with a +6 on-ice rating.

Sceviour was also a contributing force in the Dallas Stars’ postseason run. He scored two goals and notched three assists (2-3-5) as well as a +1 rating while playing in 11 of the Stars’ 13 playoff games. This was Sceviour’s second NHL postseason appearance ever, and capped off just about two and a half years since he was called up to the NHL for a consistent spot on the roster.

I got the chance to catch up with him on exit interview day about this past season, the offseason ahead, and his future with the team. You can read the interview below.

Thoughts on the season overall

Obviously there are a lot of positives and things to build off of. It’s disappointing that we got this close and then what just happened with the loss, but we made a lot of strides and worked on going in the right direction for sure.

How he has enjoyed his time in Dallas since being called up and how he has seen the team grow

That first year I was part of it we made a pretty big run that was just a “sneak in” kind of thing. And then to get to the point where we are this year being first place in the conference and that kind of stuff, obviously we took some good steps and leaps in the right direction. We’re just going to try to keep building off of that.

The goal on starting next year

The start has to be the key. You see teams that start out slow and it can be tough to get back in sometimes. In the division we play in, it would be really tough. You fall behind too much and it’s just tough to pick back up and regain that distance. I think you have the same mindset to start the year next year to come out and try to get going early and build off that.

What he thought about his play this year

Yeah. Every season I have some ups and downs, but I felt like overall I improved my game and found a way to help the team on most nights and that was kind of the goal. Now I can build off of that to become more consistent and be able to contribute more on a daily basis and that’s kind of the mindset going into the summer and training to be able to do that.

Do you have any plans for the offseason?

Not as of yet, haha. I got a few people I know getting married, so a few weddings and stuff like that. And then no plans after that, so we’ll see where it goes.

Colton Sceviour will be an unrestricted free agent this coming summer, and the Dallas Stars will have the option of whether or not to bring him back. He brings a lot of positives to the table for the Stars, but it will all come down to whether the Stars have space for him or not. Something tells me they will.
