Are you a hockey fan in training and want the Dallas Stars to be your “go-to” team? Here are some tips that all new fans can benefit from knowing.

The Dallas Stars have been in Texas since 1993, but maybe you’re just coming around to the idea of hockey.

It can be nerve-wracking to attend your first NHL game and if it’s right around the corner for you, here are some key things to realize heading into it.

#3 You’re Not Alone

With a team on the rise like the Dallas Stars it’s safe to say that more than a handful of fans in the audience are attending their first NHL game. Knowing that before going into an intense and fast-paced game like hockey can calm the nerves quite a bit.

Just remember that people paid to see the hockey game and not to see who knows and doesn’t know what’s going on. Make sure you’re dressed for the cold, even if it’s 90 degrees outside, and you should be just fine!

#2 You Don’t Have to Know Everything

From rules to player names and numbers there are a lot of nuisances in the game of hockey. Each team has their own group of 20 or so players and each one of them has their own number. It helps that both are conveniently located on the back of their jersey, but in the event that you can’t see them there’s no reason to stress.

With experience as a guide, hockey is something that you learn. Just like any other sport you pick things up along the way. If you run into questions or confusion, the best thing to do is simply ask someone around! Dallas fans are pretty kind and realize that hockey isn’t the No. 1 sport in town, so they tend to be understanding of those newer to the game.

Also, if you can’t seem to keep up with the puck try looking for a cluster of players. If that doesn’t help, you can always try and see the direction the players are looking as a clue too.

#1 Have Fun!

Hockey is a game full of action, whether it be fighting, hits, scoring or big saves. All of that makes for a really good time, win or lose. Being a new fan to a team or a sport has its challenges, but at the end of the day it’s just about having a good time with friends and family.
