The Dallas Stars rallied together and produced a gritty 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks last night. See what some of the players and coaches had to say about the victory.

Saturday mornings are always nice, but they are even better when the Dallas Stars win are celebrating a win.

Last night, the Stars dug their heels in and played a gritty 60-minute game against the Vancouver Canucks. The offenses were a bit slow, while the defenses and goaltending reigned supreme. But it was Dallas who came out on top, defeating the Canucks 2-1 in front of a sellout crowd.

See what some John Klingberg, Radek Faksa, Esa Lindell, and Lindy Ruff had to say about the victory below. Enjoy your Saturday, Stars fans.

John Klingberg:

His thoughts on the game

Two desperate teams. I think we played really good. We got two points, which is what we wanted. Other than that, obviously we have some stuff to work with. But right now it’s huge for us to get two points. It’s good confidence for us. I think we played pretty solid and got some really, really big saves from Antti [Niemi].

Playing with Lindell

Yeah, it feels good. We talk a lot. We talk about every shift and what we can do better. I’m happy to play with him. He’s a good puck mover and a good skater with really good vision. He’s a smart guy.

Radek Faksa:

On his first goal that was almost credited to Esa Lindell

I felt a little bad, but I needed the goal too, ya know? For sure if I didn’t tip it I would say it was not my goal, but I’m happy for Esa. He got the other one after, so I don’t feel guilty anymore.

Thoughts on the game

We had a tough bounce in the first period, and lately we haven’t had good second periods. But today it was a strong second period from us and we scored two big goals. In the third period, I think we had good defense, Antti [Niemi] made some pretty good saves, I think we had a good PK, especially the last one. I think we did good getting chances from the defense and some breakaways.

The success coming from his line with Ritchie and Roussel

Just trying to play hard, using a good forecheck and getting pucks deep. We’re getting chances from the forecheck and heavy bodies just going to the net. The D is shooting the puck and I just hang around the net and we had a few bounces lately and hopefully it will keep going.

Esa Lindell:

On scoring his first NHL goal

It feels good, if it was my goal. But they said it and it won’t change, so it feels good. It’s been a long time since I scored.

Playing with Klingberg

It’s nice, I really like playing with him. He’s a really good offensive d-man and is good in the d-zone. He helps a lot by talking to me. I don’t have anything bad to say about him, haha.

If he’s confident in his shot

Yeah, I’m just trying to get the shots to the net. The guys are really good at blocking here so there’s not much time for that. I had good luck today finding the net.

Lindy Ruff:

His assessment of the game

It was a heck of a battle for about 50 minutes. When they started to pinch and get five guys involved, we needed a couple of big saves and we got them.

Lindell’s play

It was strong. A goal and an assist. He played a big man’s game down low. Real strong on the body and he won a lot of battles. The release on both the goals, I don’t think he scores unless he releases that quick. Esa did a real nice job for us.

Klingberg’s play

I thought he kept the game in front of him and for the most part he kept it simple. He stayed away from the one-on-one stuff. I think he realizes there are some parts of his game that have to improve and tonight he made a concerted effort to get there.

On Oleksiak’s strong performance

I thought overall the young D gave us a solid performance. In his case, he was moving pretty good out there. With his reach and stick, we’re trying to utilize that more on our penalty killing. He did a nice job.

If he liked the production he saw after juggling the lines midway through

I thought we had a couple of forwards that were struggling. My goal was to try and play the guys who were going the best so I flipped some guys around. We had some real good looks. Right now, we’re just not quite clicking to put a game away. I think it’s going to start with the [Tyler] Seguin’s, [Jamie] Benn, [Jason] Spezza, and [Patrick] Sharp.

We’re getting a good push from the the [Radek] Faksa’s, the defense, the [Antoine] Roussel’s, those people. Until our top guys can push through and make a difference, the games are going to stay tight and we’re going to be up and down.
