After the results of last night’s games, the Dallas Stars once again find themselves in dire need of a win against a Jets team who needs the two points just as badly as they do.

It’s an all-out gutter war in Big D tonight.

After Wednesday night’s festivities across the NHL, both the Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings emerged victorious in their respective games and secured two points.

The two points bumped each team into the two wild card spots, leaving Dallas in a slight tangle. They are now three points out of the final wild card spot and four points out of both the first wild card spot and third in the Central Division.

So here they are again, still more than one win out of a playoff spot. It seems to be a repetitive cycle. But the Stars are, surprisingly enough, still making progress. They have two wins in a row and are quietly building up steam.

But tonight they will once again find themselves at center stage and in the spotlight. The Winnipeg Jets are coming into town, and the game is on a rather large scale.

At the moment, the Stars and Jets are deadlocked at 52 points a piece. While the Stars have two games in hand, tonight’s game will help determine a lot in the standings. There are currently six teams fighting for the final two playoff spots in the West, and the Stars and Jets are the two currently dwelling in the cellar.

Throughout the month of February, the playoff race will quickly begin to tighten. Very rarely do six teams emerge as legitimate contenders come March. That being said, the Stars need to capitalize on their chances to not only climb the standings, but also to knock off the teams around them.

That all starts tonight. The last time the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets squared off, the Jets walked away with a crushing 8-2 victory. That came all the way back on November 8, 2016. There should definitely be some bad blood between these teams tonight. After all, the loser is going to be in for quite the fatal drop.

This game means a lot for both clubs. It’s almost like a play-in game. If the Dallas Stars can keep the pressure on and counter the Jets effectively, they will once again be knocking on the wild card door. It will also tie them up at their biggest win streak of the season (three games). With this homestand, every point available is crucial. The Stars are 2-0-2 so far. Can they keep their “undefeated” streak alive?

One thing is for sure: this game is going to be an enthralling one to watch and will have some pretty drastic consequences for both teams. Once again, the spotlight is engulfing the Dallas Stars. Can they take the heat yet again?
