In July 2015, the Dallas Stars made a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Blackhawks, bringing in veteran forward Patrick Sharp. Two years later, he’s already gone. But the mark he left on this franchise will definitely carry on.

It’s not easy being a dedicated professional sports fan.

When you pledge allegiance to a team, they become a part of you. But it’s not just the name. It’s the logo, the colors, the front office, the fellow fans, the city, and most importantly, the players.

Chances are you vividly remember a good number of the players on the first sports team you fell in love with. And chances are you probably remember the first moment of heartbreak you experienced when one of your favorite players was traded or left the team to sign elsewhere.

It left an empty feeling in your heart, didn’t it? There’s no doubt that it’s an odd feeling to have. Dallas Stars fans have had to deal with this feeling a lot over the past few years.

That’s because of the constant wave of change that has overtaken the team. With Jim Nill at the helm as GM, it’s not been uncommon for the Stars to hoist a substantially different roster at the beginning of each season since he took over.

This offseason has been no different. Dallas has spent the past three months bringing in a mass of new talent, including Ben Bishop, Marc Methot, Martin Hanzal, and Alexander Radulov. These additions give the Stars a bright future, but also set the expectations bar higher next year.

But the 2017 offseason also came with some heartbreak, specifically in regards to one player. That player is Patrick Sharp.

On July 10, 2015, the Dallas Stars made a blockbuster announcement at their annual Party in the Park to the fan base in attendance. It’s safe to say that the announcement caught everyone off guard as Patrick Sharp and Stephen Johns were dealt to the Stars in exchange for Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt.

It was heartbreaking (you can never get away from it) for fans to watch two homegrown players like Daley and Garbutt be sent away, but seeing two new players come in, specifically Sharp, was exciting.

Fast forward two years later and Sharp is back in Chicago. He signed a one-year deal with the Hawks last Saturday at the opening of free agency.

Though the Stars wanted him back and he loved his time in Dallas, he had a connection with his former team that he just couldn’t break. Still, his absence leaves quite a hole in the hearts of some Stars fans.

The veteran forward had a lasting impression on the franchise in his two years here, scoring with savvy, teaching younger players the ropes, playing a dominant leader role in the dressing room, and having an impact on the fan base and community with his heart and energy.

With that being said, it’s only fair that we look back on his time and give him a proper send-off. Let’s take a look at the top five moments of Sharp’s career in Dallas and re-live his time in Victory Green one last time.
