The regular season is still around two months away as the Dallas Stars continue their push. And with the countdown, things have become rather stale in the newsroom for the team. But here are some recent updates to indulge in.

The Dallas Stars newsfeed is dying down considerably. And even though we’ve come to expect this occurrence annually at the beginning of every August, it doesn’t make it any more appealing.

Ever since the Stars signed a handful of players on July 1, 2018 and the Erik Karlsson rumors deflated just after the first week of July, there hasn’t been much to talk about.

New contracts for Devin Shore and Mattias Janmark and an arbitration hearing for Gemel Smith is about all that Dallas Stars fans have had to rest on over the past month.

The good news is that the NHL season is less than eight weeks away from commencing. And with the Traverse City Tournament, training camp, and the preseason taking up much of September, it’s only a matter of time before hockey action is back in front of your eyes.

But the bad news is that it will probably get worse before it gets better. These next three weeks could get incredibly stale in terms of coverage and fresh news.

With that being said, you may be forced to scrape the bottom of the barrel to get your Dallas Stars fix. You might even consider a video of Tyler Seguin lifting in the gym as “news” or a picture of Jamie Benn sleeping with a baby in his arms as a feature. But if it fills the void for you and keeps you happy, then by all means, let it.

On this Friday afternoon, we come bearing a handful of fresh news for you. No, it doesn’t have to do with trade talks or free agent signings. But hey, it’s something.

  • And everyone knows that when a team gets a new player, a new jersey number will likely come with the acquisition. Whether the player’s old number is already owned by one of his new teammates or if he simply wants a change, it happens more often than not.

Dallas announced the jersey numbers for their new players on Friday. Comeau, who wore the no. 14 in Colorado for each of his three years, will switch to no. 15 in the coming season. He’s worn 57, 10, 17, and 14 in his career, but never 15.

Khudobin has worn 35, 31, and 30 in his career, but most recently wore 35 with the Boston Bruins in the past two seasons. He will dawn that number next season for Dallas, becoming the first Star to do so since goaltender Marty Turco in 2010.

Roman Polak will shift from his typical no. 46 (which is currently owned by Gemel Smith) and turn to no. 45 for next season.

But that’s not all. In the Stars’ reveal video on social media, they also noted that new Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen will wear no. 4 in his rookie season. The third overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft should be in the lineup on opening night, so why not get his number out there, too? Chances are there will be plenty of Stars fans buying it as they hold onto the hype that is set up for the young Finn.
