In today’s edition of our Dallas Stars player grades, the focus is on left winger Remi Elie.

Elie wasn’t originally expected to play for the Dallas Stars as much as he did last season, but he surprised a lot of fans, even spending time on the top line.

Last Season

Remi Elie’s 2017-18 Grade: C+

More from Blackout Dallas

When Elie started the season in the AHL, it was what fans expected, but he got called up a week into the season and never went back down again. During that time, he played in 72 games and bounced around the line-up, filling a variety of roles.

Elie’s season was good enough to keep earning him ice time, but he wasn’t particularly productive beyond that. Offensively, he only had 6 goals and 14 points, putting him almost at the bottom of the team on points for guys with 70+ games played, beating only Greg Pateryn. The only player he outshot with 70+ games played was Dan Hamhuis.

On the defensive end, which is where he gets slightly more of his starts, he had 101 hits and a 1.1 defensive point share. He may have been top 10 on the team in terms of hits, but that’s not nearly impressive enough to earn him a higher grade.

Elie certainly performed above everyone’s expectations of him, which earns him a passing grade, but nothing he did was super noteworthy. He was given a lot of opportunities to make a bigger impact, but he didn’t seize them. He just kind of coasted by on C work for a lot of the season, doing a good enough job to keep himself in the NHL but lacking a stellar performance.

Next Season

Elie’s season this past year was much better than expected coming in, where most people thought he’d be in the AHL. Next year, he needs to keep capitalizing on the chances he’s given and improve his game more.

He’s got a decent defensive game, but he needs to step that up next season. If he can improve his offensive numbers a little bit while continuing to use his size and speed to his advantage, he can definitely keep his momentum going towards a bit bigger of a contract next summer.
