Yesterday I started a new series titled Buy or Sell. Over the next couple of weeks I will discussing the Stars’ options leading up to the NHL trade deadline. While yesterday’s post and a few others will look at which way the Stars should go in the market this season, tonight’s will be the first of five looking at specific players and what the options might be over the next three to four weeks. By now most of you have seen the article that TSN’s Bob McKenzie published last week (if you haven’t, here it is). While easily dismissed by many [...]
Why Dallas Stars Fans Shouldn’t Wait For A Big Trade
It’s January in the hockey world. That means two things: that we are starting to see what team will compete for playoff spots, and that trade rumors are really starting to heat up. On Twitter, on blogs, on fan boards, and even on nightly NHL Network shows. The rumor machine is starting to kick it into high gear and there is no stopping it. It can be fun to listen to and read about, but putting trust in 95% of it will just bring letdowns and headaches. So where do the Dallas Stars fit into everything this season? Last year I [...]
Dallas Stars Continue to Scratch and Claw
Pesky: Adjective: Causing trouble; annoying. See-Dallas Stars, Stars 2011-2012 season. There is little doubt that “pesky” encompasses everything involoving the Stars this year. New head coach, Glen Gulutzan, has this team playing sixty minutes every night. Their penalties are way down and the goal differential is down to -6. Yet, just when they play good enough to get two points, we’re reminded that they’re just not quite there yet.
Dallas Stars First Half Report Card
Photo by Glenn James/NHLI via Getty Images Tomorrow the Dallas Stars will play their 41st game against division rivals, Anaheim Ducks. This season has seemed to take on polar opposites for the two teams, as the Ducks find themselves just three points ahead of league-worst Columbus Blue Jackets. However the Stars, (whom many picked to finish dead last in the division, if not the conference) find themselves not only holding on to the eighth and final playoff spot, but also sitting only three points out of the division lead, held by the “Hollywood” pick to contend for the Stanley Cup, the [...]
Just Who Are The Stars For The Dallas Stars
I think one of the thing I find so frustrating as a fan of the Dallas Stars this season is the lack of a true identity. Granted, it’s very difficult to form that one particular style when you’re trying to learn a brand new system that a new head coach brings in, but with the exception of the loss of Brad Richards and the addition of the few key players on July 1st, the Stars do not have that one brand that stands out like an offensive/defensive team. One thing that they most certainly are is “pesky,” a phrase coined [...]
Around The Pacific: New Coaches, Same Problems
Hey all, I’m trying out a new format for our weekly division post. Having a measly few sentences at times does not look too great, so we’ll be trying out this new style to make the information a lot more concise and readable, especially when it’s been a particularly slow week for a team. San Jose Sharks: (17-10-3, 37 points) Since Last Week: The Sharks have played three games in the last week, going 2-1 over that span, but earning points in all three. The shootout loss to the Colorado Avalanche, the first game of a home-and-home series, was [...]
The Dallas Stars return to the ice tonight to start the second part of their road trip, starting their trip through the New York/New Jersey are with a road game against the New York Rangers. The game immediately has many story lines. The Stars will be playing against Brad Richards for the first time since he left via free agency, Richard Bachman is getting the nod in the crease again after his great start on Saturday, and don’t forget their is always a chance for the Stars to see Sean Avery if he even plays. Well that is if he can even crack the lineup. [...]
With Morrow Injured, New Leaders Emerge
Brenden Morrow has been the captain of the Dallas Stars since 2006, and even though he has a below average start to this season, there is no reason to suggest his captaincy is in jeopardy. He is the captain and will be the foreseeable future, unless there is a meltdown of Ryan Getzlaf like proportions or a blockbuster trade. But to put that “C” on a player’s jersey is more than just an honor, it is a job. A job that extends both on and off the ice. Morrow has been the penultimate captain, playing gritty leadership style hockey and scoring clutch goals in big [...]
