The Texas Tornado have made a few roster moves leading up to the NAHL Trade Deadline of 11:59 p.m. MST on February 8. The NAHL team protected lists shall be frozen at 11:59 p.m. MST on February 10. The frozen protected list shall remain in effect until the team has completed its final regular-season, playoff, regional or national championship game.
Texas Tornado
Gone from the Texas Tornado line-up are two rookie forwards in Brett Heikkila and Jordan Paine.
Brett Heikkila, 5’ 9” – 170 pounds is from Marquette, MI and was born in 1995. Heikkila who has seen limited time this season was released. His lone goal this season came against Odessa on November 2. Heikkila is committed to his home town Northern Michigan University Wildcats for 2014.

Jordan Paine, 6’ 3” – 200 pounds is a native of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA and born in 1994. He was traded to the Kenai River Brown Bears. Like Heikkila, Paine had seen limited ice time throughout the season playing in just 23 games. His four goals this season came against Odessa and Corpus Christi. Paine joins a Brown Bears team that is currently setting in third place in the NAHL West Division.

Additions to the Tornado roster have come in the form of a goalie, a forward and two defensemen. The backup goalie position had been in flux since Jerry Kaukinen was released on January 18. Texas now has a solid netminder with NAHL experience to step into the role.
Aaron Davis, 5’ 7” – 165 pounds from Mound, MN and born in 1992 comes to the team from the North Iowa Bulls of the NA3HL. Prior to the Bulls Davis played a total of 76 games over parts of three seasons with the Coulee Region Chill. Davis joined the Bulls in November and put up a 10-1-0 record with a 2.00GAA and .928SV%. He was named the NA3HL Goalie of the Month in December when he had two shutouts and posted a 1.50GAA and .945SV%.
Davis started his NAHL career in 2010/11 with the Chill where he played behind Paul Moberg who is now playing NCAA D-I with the Air Force Academy. Davis was the number one goalie for Coulee Region in 2011/12 and started the season in the same position with the team this year before the trade to North Iowa. Davis was selected to the 2012 Top Prospects Tournament where he played with Team Midwest.

Max Shuart is a 6’ 1” – 187 pound forward from Northville, MI with a 1994 birth year. Shuart started the 2010/11 season with the USNTDP before moving to the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL where remained until coming to the Texas Tornado. In 2011/12 Shuart was seventh on the Lumberjacks in scoring and this season was sixth in goals scored. Shuart is committed to theUniversity of Michigan.

Donovan Gardiner from Sterling Heights, MI is a 5’ 10” – 179 pound defenseman born in 1993. Gardiner has spent time in both Kalamazoo and Janesville this season. Gardiner split time between the Wellington Dukes and Hamilton Red Wings of the Ontario Junior Hockey League during the 2011/12 season where he played 42 games and had 9 points. Gardiner will bring a little grit to the Tornado roster as he has shown he is not afraid to drop the mitts racking up 6 fighting majors in his 37 games played.

Shayne McLaughlin is a 6’ 2” – 210 pound defenseman from Eau Claire, WI born in 1992. McLaughlin has bounced around the NAHL where he has played 130 games with four different teams starting in the 2010/11 season. He began his career with the Springfield Jr Blues then played a single game with Fresno before moving to Aberdeen then Brookings. When in high school, McLaughlin earned first team all state honors his junior and senior years.
