The Dallas Stars responded in a big way Tuesday night against the Edmonton Oilers. After losing 6 straight games the Stars earned a 5-2 win with Kari Lehtonen registering 31 saves and Jamie Benn scoring 2 points.
Though the Stars weren’t in top form, they played well enough to get the much needed 2 points.
Less than 20 seconds into the first period Trevor Daley found Erik Cole to open up the scoring. The goal was Cole’s 12th of the season and first in 4 games. Benn also picked up an assist on the play.
The Oilers responded with a goal to tie the game at the 3:40 mark. However, the Stars rallied when Ryan Garbutt and Benn both scored to make it 3-1 after the first period.
Cody Eakin continued his strong play of late with a goal 1:10 into the second period. It was Eakin’s 10th of the year. Trevor Daley iced the game with an empty-netter with 39 seconds left.
For the Stars it was a sorely needed win. While the team has to be happy with where they are in the standings headed into the Olympic break, they have struggled as of late. Going into last night’s game they were just 3-6-1 in their last ten games. Hopefully this is the start of a strong push before the break.
