‘Twas The Night Before Christmas: Dallas Stars Version
Tuesday night was a difficult one for the Dallas Stars, as well as their fan base. After winning four straight contests in the week prior, the Stars were mutilated and stunned by the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-0. Taking 43 shots was not enough to crack open a first goal, and the Stars will spend the three day break for Christmas wondering what they must do differently if they want to beat the St. Louis Blues on December 27th and get back to their consistent ways.
But, it’s that time of the year, and I thought you would enjoy a little spark of happiness here on Christmas Eve. So, here is the classic poem “‘Twas The Night Before Christmas,” but this one has a bit of a Dallas Stars twist to it. Enjoy!
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the AAC,
Not a creature was stirring, not even Lindy;
The pucks were stacked by the bench with care,
In hopes that the real Dallas Stars soon would be there;
The retired numbers were nestled all snug in the rafters,
In hopes that Sergei Zubov would file in soon after;
And Goligoski in his hat and Jordie Benn laying back ,
Had just devised a plan for a hopeful defensive attack,
When out in the rink there arose such a clatter,
They sprang from the locker room to see what was the matter.
Away to the giant entrance Star they flew with a hustle,
Making sure they did not make the slightest bustle,
The scraping from the Zamboni of the ice and snow,
Gave a clear view of what was about to go,
When what to their wondering eyes should appear,
But Jamie Benn and Trevor Daley with a few new players,
With a little, old GM so full of life and thrill,
They knew in a moment it must be Jim Nill.
More threatening than titans his players they came,
And he articulated with a Canadian accent and called them each by name:
“Now Morin! now, Demers! now Moen and Jokipakka!
On Klingberg! on, Horcoff! on, Spezza and Hemsky!
To the back of the net! to the side of the boards!
Now stride away! stride away! stride away all!
As defenders that fled from the wild offensive attack,
When they meet with an obstacle, they always fought back;
So to the front of the net the arsenal flew,
With the sticks and the skates and Erik Cole too,
And then, with a yelling, I heard from the stands,
The stick-tapping that came from each set of hands,
As I watched in worry as the season began to slip,
Jim Nill was interviewed on a highlight clip.
He was dressed in his Stars gear from head to foot,
And his mustache was clean with no signs of soot.
A bundle of contracts he had in his hands,
And he looked like a millionaire over all the lands.
His eyes, how they reassured! and his mustache, how hairy!
His expression was determined, and his roster moves like a fairy!
He looked like the Dallas Stars perfect gift,
But for some reason, this year, there seemed to be a shift…
His use of the word faith and a confident smile,
Somewhat reassured me that the season still had many miles,
He stayed below the radar and continued to do his work,
And filled most of the positions that was prior filled with shmerks.
The season looked bleak, but he seemed to have nothing to fear,
And being considered a contender at the start of the year, he merely continued to cheer.
With a rub of his mustache, twice for good luck,
He told the Dallas Stars fans that the rest of the season would not suck.
He sprang to the ice along with Ruff, and to his team blew the whistle,
And away they started prepping for a comeback like a heat-seeking missile.
But I heard him exclaim, before he escaped sight,
“Do not worry, Dallas Stars fans! Everything is going to be alright!”
Let’s hope he’s right, because this team needs to get somewhere, and quick. Enjoy your Christmas and holidays, Dallas Stars fans!
