Dallas Stars Set To Kick Off Father’s Road Trip This Weekend
The Dallas Stars will host for the second annual time a group of elderly gentlemen to accompany them on their upcoming road trip. These elderly gentlemen can also be known as the Dallas Stars player’s fathers.
The Stars organization did the same thing for the first time last year, whisking the Stars and their dads away on a two night road trip to Phoenix (it was still Phoenix back then) and San Jose. The trip took place in February from the 3rd to the 5th. The players had some quality time to catch up with their dads, as well as give them an up-close tour of their everyday lives.
“I think the trip means a lot,” Dallas Stars head coach Lindy Ruff said. “It’s a chance to give back to probably the person who helped you the most, in most cases. They put the most miles on their cars. They should at least have new cars by now, because their kids should be able to buy them one,” Ruff joked.
The Stars had a grand time with their dads last year, starting the trip off with a Super Bowl watch party on Sunday, February 2nd. After that, they traveled over to Phoenix, AZ and spent a day at a local dude ranch. There, instead of practicing shooting and passing for the umpteenth time, they practiced lassoing and dueling with their fathers by their side. The Stars responded the next night with a 2-1 win against the Coyotes, and followed it the next night with a hard-fought 2-1 OT loss to the San Jose Sharks.
“I think it pushes the players to perform at their max,” Ruff said. “At the same time, it’s an opportunity for the son to spend a little bit of special time with his dad.”
The Dallas Stars team could seriously use the extra motivation on the upcoming road trip, where they will face off with the Nashville Predators on Thursday night, then travel from Tennessee to Colorado for a date with the Avalanche Saturday afternoon. The fathers will be watching, and hopefully will provide enough motivation for the Stars to pull out two needed wins against Central Division opponents.
