John Klingberg is the Man
To some he is John Klingberg to others he is Klingman, but regardless of what you call him he is great. No. 3 for Dallas is a Star in the making, pun intended.
Through eighteen games this season the Dallas Stars and Klingberg are the second best team in the league with 28 points and an impressive (14-4-0) record. Considering how successful the team has been, it’s even more impressive that the 23-year-old has been one of the best players if not the best.
His ability to change games is unmatched by other sophomore defenseman in the league, which is part of what makes him such a special player. This season alone he has 20 points (4G, 16A) in only eighteen match-ups.
In Saturday night’s game against the Minnesota Wild Klingberg was instrumental in all three goals scored including the overtime winner that secured the extra point for Dallas. During regulation Klingberg’s shot from the point on both goals made it possible for Jason Spezza and Jamie Benn to tip the puck past the Wild goalie.
That was all done despite the Swede being a defenseman and a good one at that. He makes smart decisions in and around the Stars goal every night, often making plays from behind Dallas’ blue line. Klingberg’s hockey knowledge and ability to keep his head on a swivel coupled with his offensive skills make for a rather dynamic combination.
Moving forward no. 3 could be a star player in the league and hopefully take it by storm.
After his performances both this season and last Klingberg should have permanently engraved the correct pronunciation of his name.
