Good morning and Happy 4th of July, Dallas Stars fans. Hope you enjoy your day, and don’t forget what makes this holiday extra special for Stars nation.

From all of us here at Blackout Dallas, we would like to extend a Happy 4th of July to each and every member of the Dallas Stars community out there. We hope you have a safe and adventurous holiday, full of barbecue, fireworks, pool/lake time, and hopefully no rogue limbs or extremities flying.

As for us here at BD, we will be taking the day off to spend with our friends and families, as we assume all of you will be doing as well. Today is a day to celebrate a gift that we so frequently neglect to remember and so very little deserve: freedom. It is also a time to reflect and thank all of those who spend their daily lives protecting it.

For Dallas Stars fans, it is a special day for multiple purposes. Along with the remembrance of how this great nation came to be and the gratitude we show to those who have helped keep it intact, there is a silver lining for the Stars community.

That’s silver lining was established back on July 4, 2013 when the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins partook in a trade that still has Bruins’ fans shaking their heads in disgust and wondering what it was that went wrong.

Jim Nill, the newly hired general manager of the Stars, wasted no time in making his name known throughout the NHL and starting this wonderful legacy that he has now built up over the past three years.

The Stars would send F Loui Eriksson, rookie F Reilly Smith, prospect F Matt Fraser, and prospect D Joe Morrow to the Bruins in exchange for superstar young F Tyler Seguin, F Rich Peverley, and prospect D Ryan Button. Peter Chiarelli, the GM of the Bruins at the time, did not last much longer after this move, primarily because the Bruins hit a bit of a rut.

At the current moment, the only player left from that trade on the Bruins is Joe Morrow. Eriksson (Vancouver), Smith (Florida), and Fraser (Chicago) have all since departed to new destinations.

On the Dallas Stars side, Peverley would play a productive season with the Stars before facing a near-death experience on the bench towards the end of the 13-14 season. Button would sign abroad after one year in the minors. And then there is Tyler Seguin. I don’t think I need to go into description on how much of an impact the first line center has had on the team.

I will, however, give you one quick statistic to laugh about throughout today before I end this article. The four players that Dallas dealt to Boston combined for a total of 251 points during their own respective tenures in Beantown.

Tyler Seguin, by himself, has tallied 234 points since joining Dallas. That’s just one person compared to four. If you add Peverley’s totals from the half season he played with the Stars, it comes out to 264. For those of you who are educated in text lingo: LOL.

Seguin continues to prove that he is not only a prime asset in the Dallas Stars’ success, but also in their bright future ahead. So happy three year anniversary to what may be the best trade the Stars have ever made.

Have a great 4th, folks. Of course, if Nill decides to make another unexpected and magnificent trade today, we’ll hop out of our beach chairs and onto the keyboards. But until then, go light some fireworks and use some food coloring to make your hot dog buns red, white, and blue. It fits the mood, so why not? Have a good one, and tune in tomorrow for more Dallas Stars chatter!
