Dallas Stars Fans: 7 Ways They Love Differently
Do they love me? Do they love me not? Sometimes, it’s hard to tell with Dallas Stars fans. Let us help you out.
Whether we are one ourselves or we know one, we can all agree that Dallas Stars fans can approach things a little differently than your average person. And by a little differently, I mean that they can be a completely different animal altogether. Sometimes they will say or do things that make you scratch your head and do a double take.
It makes it even harder sometimes to determine what they’re thinking or what these strange actions might mean. When you love a Dallas Stars fan, there can be some tell tale signs that, even when you feel it the least, they reciprocate those feelings.
1. Their closet full of coveted and carefully protected Victory Green items suddenly becomes open to you on game day.
When a Dallas Stars fan wants to outfit you in team colors and recruits you to rep their team on game day, that’s love. If they trust you to wear their Jamie Benn jersey or their Bring Hockey Back or Violent Gentlemen Dallas gear all day long and trust you to return it to them unharmed, then that’s love.
Also, the desire to make sure you look good by having you in the best team’s colors for all to see is a surefire sign that they care about you. If they didn’t, they’d let you walk around all day in an inferior team’s jersey. But no, not the passionate Stars fan.
2. They talk to you during commercial breaks.
Don’t get greedy and expect conversations during the actual game. But if a Dallas Stars fan removes their eyes from the screen and pays attention to you during the commercial breaks, there’s something there.
If they take the time to explain what’s going on, and why what Razor said back in the first five minutes was so funny, that’s love. When a Stars fan takes time to explain to you what a power play is and why the Stars are on one (and why the Stars won’t convert on it), that’s love.
3. They will cry on your shoulder.
If the Dallas Stars fan feels safe enough to bad-talk their team to you after a particularly ugly loss, then it’s love. They’re not going to open up about their negative feelings to just anyone because their loyalty to the Stars and the lengths to which they will support them are vast.
When the Stars really bite it at the worst possible moment in the season, when things are the lowest, and the Stars fan will sit down in front of you and be transparent about their doubts that the Stars can pull it together, how infuriated they are over that last penalty and how dumb it was of that player to take it, then that fan feels safe around you.
4. If you’re a fan of another team, they won’t mince words about how it makes them feel.
Penguins fan? Or even worse, a Bruins or Blackhawks fan? The Stars fan who loves you is not going to treat you kindly about it. Every time your team slips up or takes a nose dive, especially but not limited to when it’s at the hands of the Stars, they will be sure to let you know about it and more or less rub it in your face. ‘
Why? Because they hate the idea that you’re wasting your time on lesser endeavors. They only want the best for you, and they will let you know at every turn why the best is their team and not yours. It may feel tough sometimes, but sometimes tough love is the best love.
5. They counter-offer your attempts to get them out of the house while a game is on.
Just any old Stars fan can turn you down when you’re trying to get their nose out of the television during game time. But a Stars fan who loves you will do their best to draw you into their world-their much more rich and rewarding- world instead.
Stages of this may include whining, pleading, bargaining, making unrealistic promises, and then sulking if their requests for you to watch the game with them instead go unheeded.
If they really truly want your company while the game is on and want to share with you the wide array of emotions that follow defeat or victory, it’s safe to say they trust you and like having you around. So practice both your encouraging words and your excited face in the mirror for the next time you find yourself in front of the television with the rapt Stars fan.
6. No matter how Starsed-out their inner sanctum in, they allow you in without worrying about an adverse reaction from you.
We all have different ways of letting out our fandom. For a lot of Stars fans, it’s putting up posters and scarves and towels and bobbleheads and really any other memento of a Stars-related moment in their bedrooms, living rooms, man caves, or cars.
These places, decorated to the hilt in Victory Green and Stars memorabilia, is a kind of inner sanctum where the Stars fan can be surrounded by their team. They’ve probably gotten used to hearing from others that they’ve gone a little overboard or the stereotypical “Wow, you must really like green” followed by a smug chuckle.
They’ve heard it enough that if they allow you into that inner sanctum, wherever it may be, they trust you to respect the sacredness of the ultimate physical representation of their fandom. Don’t abuse that power!
7. They keep you up to date on all things Dallas Stars, regardless of whether or not you really want to know.
There’s so much rumbling around in the hockey world all the time, especially in the Dallas Stars’ special corner of it. And knowing all these details- important or not- pretty much in real time adds so much to the experience of being a hockey fan. The Stars fan who loves you knows this and doesn’t want you to have just a mundane, mediocre fan experience.
They want you to know hockey as they know it, at the level that they do, and to interact with it and make the experience your own. They’ll relay facts and trades and funny stuff to you all day long to try and figure out what connects with you, and once they figure that out, they will be your steady stream of information.
When a Stars fan works to connect with you and connect you to the rich hockey world they know in that way, it’s love.
