It’s no secret that the Dallas Stars want the season to be over, but don’t forget that in five games, there will be no more Dallas Stars hockey for six months.

Last night’s game between the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins was not one for the weak of heart. When Curtis McKenzie’s visor is covered in blood and he skates off the ice covering his swollen eye, it can be hard to watch.

It can become especially difficult to watch when you know the backstory that the Stars are currently facing. After a 2-0 loss to the Bruins, the Stars dropped to 31-35-11 on the year with 73 points.

The season has been a nightmare up to this point. Dallas has seen a horrific downturn from one year ago and it seems as though they never got off on the right foot. The defense and goaltending are in shambles, the power play and penalty kill are among the worst in the league, and there’s a lot left to be desired from a team stacked with talent.

They are on pace for one of the worst seasons in franchise history, and the final few games will decide where the Stars will ultimately stand in history.

The crazy thing is that the Dallas Stars only have five games left to make something happen. That’s a maximum of 10 points left to be acquired. Even if the Stars win out, they will finish the season with 83 points, which will be tied for their second lowest in franchise history.

At this point, the Dallas Stars and their fans are searching for an end. Just get the season over with before anyone else gets severely injured or beaten senseless. It just needs to be done with and pushed into history.

While that might be the best strategy, just imagine what’s happening after these last five games. Following their season finale at home against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, April 8, there will be no more legitimate Dallas Stars hockey until their season opener in early October. That’s six months away.

So enjoy it while you can, Dallas Stars fans. Savor every moment. They might be some of the sourest moments you experience as a Stars fan, but they are all that you will get. Sit back for a moment and think about the influence that the Stars have on your life. What are you going to do when they go away? Follow the offseason action, of course. But that’s much different than watching the gameplay itself.

This is a two-way street. Dallas Stars fans need their team and need to enjoy every second of play that they can while it is still around to be enjoyed. And the Dallas Stars need all the support they can get in closing the season out. It’s been a rough ride for fans, but it’s been just as rough for the players.

There’s a certain element about this season that just makes people sick to their stomach. And it’s just about time to be over. But that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t get all the support they can.

It might be an exciting last week, or it might be a depressing one. Either way, keep your heads held high. Just eight days to go. Savor every second of it.
