The Dallas Stars have had a busy day in the newsroom. Catch up with all of the need-to-know information here.
At this point in the offseason, fans of non-playoff teams are always scavenging for any bit of information from their teams. Without any competition to keep up with, news is the only way for diehards to get their “fix.”
And that’s likely where Dallas Stars fans are at in this point of the offseason. It’s almost been one month since the Stars closed out the 2016-17 season with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Colorado Avalanche. Since then, there’s been plenty of action to follow along with.
Parting ways with Lindy Ruff, the hiring of Ken Hitchcock, and Tyler Seguin’s shoulder surgery helped keep the Stars’ news feed afloat over the first few weeks of the offseason.
But over the past few weeks, there hasn’t been much to keep up with besides speculation about the Expansion Draft and the Stars receiving the third overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft via the Draft Lottery.

World Championship representatives announced for Stars
The Dallas Stars will be sending three of their current players and one in their system to the IIHF World Championships in Paris, France and Cologne, Germany.
Antoine Roussel will play for France, Julius Honka will play for Finland, John Klingberg will play for Sweden, and Valeri Nichushkin will play for Russia.
The tournament kicks off on May 5 and will run through May 21 and will feature 16 different countries with some of the brightest stars in hockey (that aren’t currently in the Stanley Cup Playoffs race).

Roope Hintz signed to entry level contract
The Dallas Stars announced today that they signed 20-year-old Roope Hintz to a three-year, entry level contract.
Hintz was the Stars’ selection in the second round (49th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, and was taken just after Dallas acquired the rights to goaltender Antti Niemi.
This past season was his second year in SM-Liiga, the top hockey league in Finland. He spent it with HIFK and tallied a career-high 30 points, good enough for second on the team. He also led the team with 19 goals.
Hintz brings considerable size to the ice (6-3, 205 lb.) and seems to have a considerably bright future ahead of him. He’ll likely join the Texas Stars in the AHL this year and could even be a call-up option for the Dallas Stars next season if they are ever lacking forwards.
