When fans think of going to a Dallas Stars game, they probably think about the National Anthem. Twice the fans get to cheer in the anthem when “Stars” and “Star” are said. It’s a great feeling that gets them pumped for a game. However during a game, it seems there’s room for improvement.

Think about if the Stars aren’t scoring at a home game you’re at. Sounds boring, right? We Stars fans need a new cheer to get us reengaged into the game that’s more than the typical “Deep in the heart of Texas” clap that’s played at every stadium in Texas. While the Puck Off goal song by Pantera is incredible, it can’t be the only unique cheer the Stars have in for the entire game.

It appears that the only cheers the Dallas Stars have during the game currently is the random Woo-ing (which a lot of fans absolutely hate) and the “Who cares?” cheer, yelled when the opposing teams scores. And let’s not forget, there’s also the “Let’s go Stars” chant. These cheers are important but they aren’t unique enough to be memorable.

Playoff Team Cheers

Have you seen how awesome some of these playoff teams’ cheers are? They’re ridiculously original and coordinated. So jealous! The Stars should have something completely new like that!

The Nashville Predators have these amazing long chants. They’re mostly negative but still effective. They literally celebrate a goal by saying “Hey, You Suck!” followed by a lovely “We’re gonna beat the hell outta you!” The Predators have a website completely dedicated towards their cheering section that leads the chants. All their chants are listed on their site so new fans can get easily involved. If you’ve ever been to a Dallas Mavericks game imagine the Mavs ManiAACs but much larger and more effective.

The New York Rangers have their signature “Potvin Sucks” cheer which starts out with a very elaborate whistle cue. It’s truly one-of-a-kind. There’s a whole story behind why they say that but we’re Stars fans…who cares.

Even the St Louis Blues, while just eliminated, had a strong chant game going. They turned the normal “Let’s go ” into something really cool just by slowing it down. A horn beeps, or whatever horns do, three times and the cheer turns from a fast “Let’s Go Blues!” to  a slow “Leeeeet’s Gooooo Bluuuuuues”. It’s simple but still unique.

Acknowledging The Greatness Of One Stars Fan

I’m not sure if this will reach the fan who does this but this needs to be acknowledged anyways. There is at least one Stars fan who is completely original but it’s easy to miss if you aren’t listening for it.

During the national anthem, when whoever is singing, usually Celena Rae, gets to the part of “O’er the land of the free” one to three men will yell out “Let’s go Jamie Benn!” The fan’s seat is on the rail somewhere near the 205 to 207 sections. If you see him, tell him he’s awesome.

If the rest of you Stars fans want to get on this action…do it!

I Challenge You Stars Fans

Embarrassingly, we Stars fans sometimes get out-cheered. It’s really uncomfortable and it feels like you’ve just realized you’re surrounded by an enemy that you didn’t know was there. It usually only happens when the Blackhawks are in town but that is still no excuse. This shouldn’t happen at all in a home stadium. I know we can do better.

Next: Stars Need What Predators Have

We need some originality up in Dallas! Luckily, we have a few months to get our chant priorities in order. Let’s start something new and original. Throw out all your (PG rated) ideas in the comments below! We need your input! That’s right, I’m calling you out Stars Fans!

Of course, it’s going require some effort to start a new cheer but I’m willing to start shouting random new things in the AAC to make it happen. Let’s make our mark on Stars cheering history.
