After hitting a bump in the road in New Jersey, the performance of the Dallas Stars in Philadelphia will speak volumes about their quality and comeback ability.

The Dallas Stars’ road trip up north had been swinging their thanks to a lot of hard work, a gritty dedication, and mindfulness of weaknesses. While they were able to get ahead early on, their loss to the Devils last night proves that they are a team still under construction.

Several failures contributed to the Stars’ downfall last night. Iffy penalties combined with lackluster special teams performances meant that Dallas handed out too many chances that the Devils did not let slip through their fingers.

Those roles were flip-flopped in recent games, with the Stars being the team capitalizing on every advantage, but more importantly, making their own whenever possible.

And creating enough chances to culminate in a win generally starts with the Stars coming out in control and staying ahead in terms of score and mentality for the whole 60 minutes.

Now the Stars sit at a record of 18-14-1 with 37 points. The loss to the Devils knocked them out of the playoff picture, and they now have one final shot at two points before going home. It would be a big help for the team if they can secure a win and close out the road trip on a high note.

But it would also help Dallas prove that they can bounce back after a rough loss even in the midst of a struggle.

The Stars know this and cited lack of control in their own zone as one of the deciding factors in their demise last night. They’ll be cracking down on their defensive performance tonight against the Flyers; let’s cross our fingers that the offensive performance follows suit.

After tonight, the Stars will head back home to Dallas. If they tighten up and keep an eye on their trouble spots tonight, they can still return home with an upward trending roadtrip record.
