The 2018 NHL All-Star Game rosters were announced earlier today, and two Dallas Stars are headed for Tampa Bay. Both John Klingberg and Tyler Seguin were named to the Central Division roster.
It’s official. Two Dallas Stars are heading to Tampa Bay at the end of this month.
Just moments ago, the NHL announced the rosters for each of the four divisional teams for the 2018 NHL All-Star Game. And as NHL.com correctly predicted yesterday, both John Klingberg and Tyler Seguin will play for the Central Division.
So two Stars will head to Tampa Bay for the ASG. This will be Tyler Seguin’s fifth All-Star Game appearance, including his fourth straight with the Dallas Stars.
Seguin has been an All-Star in every season since joining the Stars in the summer of 2013. No. 91 is always a joy to watch on the ice and is one of the most well-known players around the NHL.
Dallas Stars
This season, he’s working wonders yet again for Dallas. Seguin has 21 goals and 40 points in 43 games this season to lead all Stars in scoring. He has a team-high eight power play goals and is helping Dallas in all areas this season while skating on both the first and second lines. No. 91 is on track for one of his best seasons with Dallas and could potentially play his second straight full season with the Stars.
But the real interesting story is that of John Klingberg. This will be his first All-Star appearance since coming into the league in November 2014. And when Klingberg first entered the league, there may have been an argument for him to make the ASG.
Klingberg had a terrific rookie year, breaking out in the early part of his NHL career. He put up 40 points in 65 games during the 2014-15 season and finished fifth in voting for the Calder Trophy (given to the league’s top rookie).
2015-16 saw an even better form of no. 3. He played in 76 games and tallied 58 points and an incredible +22 rating.
And though he experienced a slight drop off in production during last season, he has rallied back and once again become a confident and reliable member of the Dallas defense. This season, Klingberg has six goals and 39 points in 43 games, along with a +12 rating. He leads all NHL defenders in points by a solid five-point spread. No. 3 is a solid member of the Stars’ top pairing, helps run the power play and penalty kill, and has become an effective and efficient two-way defender under Ken Hitchcock and Rick Wilson.
Now he’s an All-Star in his third full year on the Dallas roster. Not bad for a 25-year-old and former fifth-round pick.
