Dear Jim Nill, trust your Dallas Stars prospects down in Cedar Park

The Dallas Stars is a team that likes to pounce on the free-agent market once it opens up. Sometimes it’s not a good thing when you have good prospects waiting down in the minor leagues.

As a Dallas Stars fan, I’m always intrigued to see how some of the Star’s prospects do in the minor leagues each year. It’s really disappointing when they do so well at training camp and then they get sent back down every season.

Sometimes you just have to say no to signing free agents and see what you have in your farm system for open roster spots. Here is a letter that some Stars fans had the idea of sending Jim Nill after the 2021 free agent signings.

Dear Jim Nill,

You have been an excellent GM since arriving in Dallas by putting the best team on the ice every year. You’ve built a team from the ground up into possibly a Stanley Cup contender this season.

The one thing most Stars fans are scratching their head at is why you don’t trust the prospects at Cedar Park. You have some amazing talent down there that could have filled a lot of the open roster spots.

You have two great goaltenders in Ben Bishop and Anton Khudobin. Stars fans don’t understand why you went after Braden Holtby in free agency. You have a great young goaltender in Jake Oettinger and could have filled in until Bishop returns.

Ryan Suter was a great free agent signing to boost the defense which fans aren’t mad about. However, they do have an issue with Thomas Harley, Ben Gleason, and Joseph Cecconi still being in the minors.

Joe Pavelski, Alexander Radulov, Michael Raffl, and Blake Comeau‘s contracts expire next offseason. Instead of signing free agents, promote Riley TufteRiley Damiani, and Mavrik Bourque to the main roster.

So in conclusion, all fans ask is that before you jump into free agency is to look at your prospects. You might just find what you are looking for at the fraction of the price of a veteran.

Sincerely,

Dallas Stars fans
