The Dallas Stars were able to beat the Calgary Flames on Thursday night 4-3. This was the first win against Calgary this season. Fans were hoping that the Stars would finally win in regulation for the first time this season. Buckle up for this game summary because this game was a roller coaster from the beginning.

Dallas Stars: 1st period summary

The Stars opened up the first period attacking the Calgary net. Anton Khudobin was able to suppress the Calgary Flames offense in the first period. The Stars struck the scoresheet first when Miro Heiskanen was able to make a highlight reel pass to Dennis Gurionov made it 1-0 Stars.

At the end of the first period, the Stars led in shots on goal, and faceoff wins. The other thing that stood out was that the Stars weren’t in the penalty box in the first period. While they didn’t play a completely clean game, that was a small milestone in turning their season around.

Dallas Stars: 2nd period summary

The Stars continued in the second period to pressure the Flames with shots on goal early in the second period. The downside to the second period was we couldn’t score on the power play. Stars need to capitalize when they have the extra man advantage.

Khudobin did allow two goals in the second period, the first goal was a goal that trickled in off Dobby’s shoulder to make it 1-1. Calgary would take the lead three minutes later on the power play when Matthew Tkachuk scored.

Blake Comeau made things interesting when he scored with six seconds left in the period. This is what the Stars needed going into the third period. After two periods, Calgary led in most categories. If the Stars want to win, they have to get the defense going in the third period.

Dallas Stars: 3rd period and OT summary

The Stars started out the third period very aggressive, due to this aggression, Tyler Seguin was able to get his fourth of the season. After the goal, it looked like the Stars were about to get their first win in regulation this season.

Unfortunately, near the end of the third period, the Stars got into some penalty trouble and sent the Flames on the power play. Nikita Zadorov was able to get his first goal of the season and would send the game to overtime.

Luckily, Jamie Benn was tired of losing in OT and decided to send Stars fans to sleep very happy. Jamie Benn used one of the Flames players as a screen to confuse the goalie. Next up for the Stars is a late Sunday night game against the Canucks. Stay tuned to Blackout Dallas for the pre-game report.
