After last night’s loss to the Nashville Predators, some changes to the lineup were expected for the Dallas Stars. On Thursday afternoon, it was announced that assistant captain Blake Comeau and Tanner Kero were placed on Waivers. Thomas Harley was also sent down back to Cedar Park.
For those who are new to hockey, being placed on waivers means that other teams can sign those players. If they don’t get picked up by any other team, they can become free agents or get sent down to the AHL for the remainder of the season.
According to Saad Yousuf, The Athletic Beat Reporter for the Dallas Stars, Jim Nill said the reason why both were placed on waivers was to create cap space for any future call-ups this season.
Just talked to Stars GM Jim Nill. He said waiver moves today of Blake Comeau & Tanner Kero were as a result of the team needing to create cap flexibility for call-ups. If Comeau clears, there's a chance he goes to AHL Texas. Full story and analysis coming @TheAthleticDFW shortly.

Blake Comeau getting placed on waivers was a huge surprise to many fans. He was the perfect fit for this Dallas Stars team on offense. Even though he has only scored one goal this season, his chemistry with this team was another reason why he was resigned during the offseason.
As for Tanner Kero, it was kind of expected that he went on waivers. More than likely no one will pick him up and he will be going down to Cedar Park for more conditioning. I’m guessing there will be more changes coming for the Dallas Stars as for who will get called up.
Hopefully, the players only meeting is just the tip of the iceberg of changes coming for the Dallas Stars. Considering we are having trouble scoring and turning the puck over to the other team a lot, I could see a couple of the Texas Stars players being called up soon.
Don’t be shocked if you see Riley Tufte get called up to the Stars. Right now he is the leading scorer down for the Texas Stars and would be a welcome scoring addition to the lineup right now.
