The Dallas Stars complete another comeback as they win 5-4 in OT
The Dallas Stars once again come back from behind and win another road game. The Stars beat the Red Wings 5-4 in OT. They are 2-0 on this road trip and it seems Jason Robertson is a huge part of this Stars offense. Here’s how the Stars did tonight vs Detroit.
Dallas Stars vs Detroit Red Wings: 1st period recap
The Stars immediately won the opening faceoff and got a shot on goal within the first minute. The Stars would go on the penalty kill early as Gurianov was guilty of tripping Moritz Seider. The Stars were able to kill off the penalty thanks to the veteran goaltender Braden Holtby.
The Stars and the Wings would score 23 seconds apart from each other. Ryan Suter would score first for the Stars to make it 1-0. Robby Fabbri would tie it seconds later for the Wings. The Stars defense after scoring continues to keep opponents in the game.
The Stars would commit a high sticking penalty under two minutes remaining in the first period. Both teams will go into the intermission tied at 1 apiece. The Red Wings outshot the Stars 11-10 in the first period. Considering how tired the Stars must be from last night’s game, they look alert tonight.
Dallas Stars vs Detroit Red Wings: 2nd period recap
The Stars would go on the power play five minutes into the 2nd period after Faska was tripped. They would fail to capitalize on the power play, but Kiviranta would get his first goal of the season to give the Stars the lead 2-1.
Pius Suter would tie the game at 2 after the awkward deflection off a stick in front of Holtby. Dylan Larkin would retake the lead for Detroit shortly after that second goal. The Stars are literally being outskated by this really young Red Wings team in the 2nd period.
Esa Lindell would tie the game up before the one-minute warning in the 2nd period. The Stars and Wings would go into the 2nd intermission tied up at 3. Both teams are tied in the shots on goal category at 20.
Dallas Stars vs Detroit Red Wings: 3rd Period & OT Recap
Jacob Peterson was able to draw a penalty to send the Stars on the power play early on in the 3rd period. The Stars wouldn’t be able to capitalize on the extra man advantage. The Stars decided to play with fire and kept giving Detroit the extra man advantage. Tyler Bertuzzi would capitalize on the power play to make it 4-3 Detroit with 6 minutes remaining in the game.
The Stars would pull their goaltender near the end of the third period and would be able to capitalize with the extra man. Jason Robertson got the game-tying goal to tie the game at 4. The Stars would force overtime and the Red Wings gave them a gift in OT.
The Red Wings would go to the penalty box in OT giving the Stars an extra man on the ice. Roope Hintz would score to end the game and give the Stars 2 points as the Stars won 5-4. The Stars have a couple of days off before playing the Flyers on Monday night.
