On June 19, 1999, Sergei Zubov and the Dallas Stars finished off the Buffalo Sabres in game 6 of the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals. The team would bring home Dallas’s first-ever hockey championship to the metroplex.
This would be the second Stanley Cup that Zubov won in his hockey career. According to The Hockey Writers reporter Nathaniel Oliver, he won his first cup with the New York Rangers in 1993-94.

After Zubov retired in 2009 from the NHL, Stars fans started wondering if did enough in his 16 years in the league to be considered a candidate for the Hockey Hall of Fame. He was a two time Stanley Cup Champion at the end of his career so his name would probably get mentioned once he was eligible to be nominated.
On June 25, 2019, a decade after Zubov retired, the NHL announced that Sergei Zubov would be a part of the 2019 Hockey Hall of Fame class. He would join the likes of Mike Modano and other Dallas Stars greats from the 1999 Dallas Stars Stanley Cup Champion team who have been inducted into the hall of fame.

On January 28th of 2022, The Dallas Stars held a ceremony before the game against the Capitals to honor Zubov as they retired number 56 into the rafters at the American Airlines Center. He will be the only player in Dallas Stars history to ever wear the number 56. What a perfect way to cap off what was an industrious career in the National Hockey League.
