Fans around the league will probably wake up tomorrow morning and see that Dallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger is for real. The Dallas Stars goaltender had a career night between the pipes as he stopped 46-47 shots. The Stars would go on to win 4-1 against the Colorado Avalanche as they look to continue their quest for a playoff spot.
According to Bruce LeVine, Co-Host of Dallas Stars Radio, he announced after the game that the Stars broke the Avalanche’s home and current point streak that was going on.
After tonight’s NHL games the Stars currently sit one point behind the final wildcard spot which Anihiem is in currently. Here is how Oettinger and the Stars were able to melt the Avalanche.
Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche: 1st period recap
The Colorado Avalanche looked ready to go out of opening puck drop and got two quick shots on goal to test Jake Oettinger early. Luke Glendening would get an attempt on a breakaway but the Avs would shut that down. The Stars didn’t register a shot attempt until mid 1st period.
The Stars would go on the power play and Joe Pavelski would capitalize on the opportunity to make it 1-0 Stars. The Stars would go into the first intermission up 1-0. The Stars would trail in the shots on goal category 14-6.
Stars started out sluggish to start the game, but as the period progressed the shot opportunities increased and the Stars got one in. The Stars need to carry the momentum from the 1st period into the 2nd period if they want to win this game.
Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche: 2nd period recap
The Stars won the opening faceoff and went right to work on offense. Jason Robertson would open the scoring in the 2nd by making it 2-0 Stars. Av’s wouldn’t waste much time as McKinnon got one past Oettinger to make it 2-1.
Jamie Benn would go to the penalty box in the middle of the period. Luckily, Oettinger and the penalty kill stopped the Avs from scoring. Shortly after the penalty was over, Av’s would take a turn in the penalty box. Joe Pavelski would score another power play goal to make it 3-1.
Oettinger and Hintz would combine their goaltending efforts to keep the puck out of what was an empty net. The Stars would take their 3-1 lead into the second intermission. Stars would still trail in shots on goal 30-15, but that doesn’t matter much when you make your shots count.
Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche: 3rd period recap
Stars fans are probably biting their nails right now since the Stars can’t get the puck out of their zone. Oettinger is the only reason why the Avs haven’t tied the game or taken the lead. Stars would go back on the penalty kill after Jamie Benn hooked one of the Avs along the boards.
The Stars penalty kill would only allow 1 shot for Colorado during the power play attempt. The Avs would pull their goalie with three minutes remaining in the 3rd. Tyler Seguin would get the empty netter to put the game out of reach for the Avs.
The Stars would go on to win 4-1 in what is considered a massive victory for the Stars. This was their 5th straight road win. Their next game will be Friday at 7:30 Central time as they look to extend the streak to 6 wins on the road.
