Jake Oettinger and the Dallas Stars were able to beat the Blackhawks on Friday night by a score of 1-0. Oettinger was coming off a career game in Colorado and he didn’t miss a beat again tonight. The Stars picked up another crucial two points in their quest for one of the few playoff spots in the Western Conference. Here is what went down in Chicago between the Hawks and the Stars.

Dallas Stars vs Chicago Blackhawks: 1st period recap

The Stars and the Blackhawks would start this game off kind of seeing what the other team was doing on the offensive side. The Blackhawks would commit the first penalty of the game when Brandon Hagel high sticked Esa Lindell.

The Blackhawks would easily kill the Star’s power play attempt. The Blackhawks would test Oettinger around the midpoint of the 1st period with some quick shots on the net. Alexander Radulov would commit the first penalty of the night for the Stars. The Blackhawks would get a couple of shots off, but Dallas would kill the penalty.

The Stars would get a couple of chances at the end of the period to score, and Marc Andre Fleury would stuff both attempts. It would remain scoreless as both teams reached the end of the 1st period. Chicago would lead in shots on goal 11-8 and surprisingly in face offs won 5-3.

Stars have to get it going in the 2nd period, they looked really lethargic in the 1st. The only reason why it has remained scoreless is due to Jake Oettinger.

Dallas Stars vs Chicago Blackhawks: 2nd period recap

The Stars would start the 2nd period by going on the power play 2 minutes into the period. Stars would go back on the power play and Fleury would stop every attempt the Stars gave him. Alexander Radulov would have been first on the board for the Stars if Fleury didn’t shut down the 5 hole attempt at the last second.

At the midpoint of the second period, the Stars look a lot more aggressive on offense. Stars would go on the penalty kill as Hakkapa “tripped” up a Blackhawk behind the net. Roope Hintz would get robbed by Fleury on his stomach at the end of the period. Chicago would still lead in shots on goal at the end of the 2nd 22-18. Stars need to keep up the aggressiveness if they want to beat the Hawks.

Dallas Stars vs Chicago Blackhawks: 3rd period recap and OT

The Stars kept up the aggressiveness from the end of the 2nd period into the 3rd. The only issue right now standing in the way of the Stars scoring is Fleury. The Stars would get a chance on the power play to score 7:45 left to play in the game. They failed to score on it and the Stars would go 0-3 on the power play this game.

The Blackhawks almost scored in the first 10 seconds of OT and ended the game but Oettinger saved it. The only reason why we are going to a shootout is because of Otter.

Alec DeBrincat would score first in the shootout for Chicago. Jason Robertson would tie the shootout at 1. In the next 3 rounds, no one from either team would score. Jacob Peterson would score the game-winning goal in the shootout as the Stars shut out the Hawks 1-0. The next Stars game will be Sunday night in Arizona as they take on the Coyotes.
