The Dallas Stars welcome the Buffalo Sabres to town for an early Sunday afternoon affair. This will be the last time that the Stars will play the Sabres this season. While they are not a conference rival, picking up two points will still be crucial for the Stars as they look to make a playoff spot. Here are the three keys to the game if the Stars want to pick up two points.
Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres: 3. Attack at will
Stars need to kick their offense into gear and it needs to start today against the Sabres. In the last game against Nashville, they only managed to score one goal in regulation which sent us to OT. If they want to be in the playoff conversation in April, got to score more than one goal a game. The whole team has to step up on offense and it has to start this afternoon.
Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres: 2. Take advantage of the extra man
The Stars have to start taking advantage of the power play. The Stars went 0-4 on the extra man advantage in their last game which is unacceptable. Stars cant be playing hot potato with the puck for a majority of the time. Stars need to get shots off on the opposing goaltender and overwhelm the opponent’s penalty kill line.
Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres: 1. Maybe give Oettinger a break today
I don’t know who Bowness is thinking of putting in between the pipes this afternoon. Jake Oettinger might finally get a break today against the Sabres. When Braden Holtby played with the Washington Capitals, he would play the Sabres a lot. I wouldn’t be shocked if Holtby is between the pipes on Sunday given his experience playing against the Sabres.
