The Dallas Stars offense came alive out of nowhere Sunday afternoon and the Sabres had no answer for it. The Stars would go on to win the game 4-2 and move into the final wildcard spot in the Western Conference. Stars fans should be really happy with the outcome of Sunday’s game minus the turnovers in the 3rd period. Here is how the Stars did against the Buffalo Sabres.

Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres: 1st period recap

The Buffalo Sabres would probably want to start the game off against the Stars differently. They would allow Dallas to have 4 scoring chances within the first four minutes of the 1st period. Stars fans at this point in the game are wondering where this offensive pressure was in the last two games on the road.

Michael Raffl would get the Stars on the board at 8:25 remaining in the first period redirecting a shot by Roope Hintz. The Stars would go into the first intermission up 1-0 and lead the Sabres in shots on goal 17-6. The Stars basically won the first period in terms of offense and energy. Let’s hope they continued it into the 2nd period.

Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres: 2nd period recap

The Stars continued their offensive onslaught in the 2nd period. Roope Hintz would get his goal to start off the scoring in the second period as he made it 2-0 Stars 6 minutes into the 2nd period. Buffalo would score two minutes later as Tage Thompson would get buffalo on the board.

Michael Raffl would score his second goal of the game near the end of the 2nd period to make it 3-1 Dallas. Stars would still lead in shots on goal 26-17 going into the 3rd period. Hopefully, the Stars can stop the Sabres in the 3rd from getting back into this game.

Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres: 3rd period recap

The scoring would calm down a lot in the 3rd period. Denis Gurianov would redirect the puck to make it 4-1 about midway through the third period on the power play.

The Stars would give the Sabres a lot of chances to get back in this game with turnovers but Oettinger would stop a majority of them from going in the net. The one goal he would allow in the 3rd would come from former Dallas Stars player Cody Eakin near the end of the game.

The Buffalo Sabres would try to pull their goalie but the Stars kept the puck in their end of the ice. They would pull their goalie with not a lot of time left in the game but it wouldn’t matter with the two goal deficit they had to overcome. The Stars would go on to win the game 4-2 and clinch the second wildcard spot temporarily.
