Dallas Stars second period goal surge knocks Kings off their throne
The Dallas Stars would have a late second period goal surge that would propel them to knock the LA Kings off their throne 4-3. The Stars could have quit when the Kings had the 3-1 lead, but they rallied to win the game and deserve the two points and the victory. Dallas Stars vs Los Angeles Kings: 1st period recap
Both the Stars and the Kings are feeling the urgency to win this game to start the period. Within the first three minutes of the game there has been 7 shots on goal combined between the two teams. Unfortunately, the Kings applied more pressure in the offensive zone than the Stars did. Phillip Danault would score the first goal of the game to make it 1-0 Kings early.
Drew Doughty would send the Stars on the first power play of the night. The Stars would fail to score on the power play, but got some good shot attempts out of it. The Stars energy tonight looked so depleted in the second half of the 1st period.
Stars would go back on the power play near the end of the 1st period. The Stars are generating shot chances tonight, but nothing is going in the net. The Stars would trail the Kings 1-0 going into the first intermission. The Stars would lead in shots on goal 11-9. The score could have been worse at the end of the period. Hopefully, something sparks for Stars in 2nd period.
Dallas Stars vs Los Angeles Kings: 2nd period recap
Luke Glendening quickly made this a brand new hockey game. He scored less than a minute into the 2nd period to tie the game at 1. The Stars look like a brand new hockey team in the beginning minutes of the middle frame. They have a lot more energy than they did in all of the 1st period.
Midway through the 2nd period, the Stars have completely dominated the Kings. John Klingberg’s trade value just went down a lot after this game. Arthur Kaliyev would score on the other end of that turnover to make it 2-1 Kings. Kaliyev would go on hat trick watch for the Kings as he made it 3-1 Kings.
Jason Robertson would score shortly after that goal to bring the Stars back into striking distance of the Kings. That’s exactly how the Stars needed to respond after Kaliyev’s second goal of night.
I had to brace for impact when Ryan Suter scored in the opening seconds of the final minute of the period to tie it at 3. Then Alexander Radulov really set the AAC on fire after he got the lead with 12 seconds remaining in the period to make it 4-3 Stars. That would be the score going into the final intermission of the game.

The Stars and Kings would go on a 4 on 4 penalty to start the third period after a collision at the Kings net. The Stars would go on the penalty kill again after Denis Gurionov would be called for tripping with 15 minutes remaining in the game. The Stars would kill that penalty with ease.
Jacob Peterson almost put the dagger in the King’s chances of winning this game at the 10 minute mark of the period. The Stars have been so close to putting this game away late in the 3rd period. The Stars would hold on to win 4-3 against the Kings. Their next game will be Friday night as they travel to Winnipeg for the final game against the Jets in regular season.
