The Dallas Stars are looking to get back on track in the playoff hunt after losing to Nashville in the final seconds Tuesday night. They can do that on Saturday night when they welcome the New York Rangers for their final matchup this season. This will not be an easy game for the Stars as New York’s goaltender Igor Shesterkin is having a career year this season. Here is how the Stars can beat the Rangers and get back on track to making the playoffs.

Dallas Stars vs New York Rangers: 3. Play all three periods

I think all Stars fans can agree with this key to the game. In the last game against Nashville, it seemed that the Stars only played hockey in the third period. That can’t be the case moving forward because teams aren’t going to wait for the Stars to start scoring in the third period. Stars have to attack aggressively beginning in the first period after the puck drop.

Dallas Stars vs New York Rangers: 2. Give Shesterkin a test

Right now Igor Shesterkin’s name is getting floated around as a finalist for the Vezina Trophy this season. What better way to test this rumor is by bombarding him with shots on goal. The Stars need to keep their scoring up as they look to defend the second wildcard position that they currently are in.  I would like to see Joe Pavelski’s line get some goals to celebrate that extension he signed with Dallas yesterday.

Dallas Stars vs New York Rangers: 1. Keep moving forward

Stars need to continue to look forward as the season starts to wrap up at the end of April. They can’t start looking at past games and start wondering “what if”. The only way that they will be able to clinch a playoff spot is if they keep winning the games in front of them on the schedule. The close losses this season are in the past and it needs to stay that way if they want to clinch that playoff spot.
