The Dallas Stars kick off their road trip in Toronto to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. This will be the only trip that the Stars will make to Toronto this season. The final game against the Maple Leafs will be back in Dallas on April 7th for those Stars fans who are interested. The Stars have temporarily been kicked out of the playoffs and are looking to get back in. Here are the keys to the game if the Stars want to steal two points on the road.

Dallas Stars vs Toronto Maple Leafs Preview: 3. Don’t sleep on them with Matthews out

As you might have seen in the news across the league, Maple Leafs Auston Matthews has been suspended for two games for an illegal cross check against the Sabres. I hope the team doesn’t think that they can take the night off on defense. The Maple Leafs have plenty of other scorers on the team that I’d be worried about like Mitch Marner and John Tavares.

Dallas Stars vs Toronto Maple Leafs Preview: 2. Please play starting after the opening puck drop

I don’t think Stars fans want another game like the Nashville game a week ago tonight. I hope the Stars realize they don’t have to wait till the 3rd period to start scoring against your opponent. Hopefully, they start scoring as soon as the puck drops like Lindell in the previous game against the Rangers. Jake Oettinger and Adam Scheel can only do so much against stopping pucks from going in the net.

Dallas Stars vs Toronto Maple Leafs Preview: 1. Let’s see what we have with Scheel

It’s not really a key to the game but I think the Dallas Stars Front Office would like to see what Scheel has to offer as a goaltender. I don’t mind giving one start on the road to him and seeing if he is ready to be Oettinger’s backup next season. It seriously wouldn’t hurt and if he does bad early on in the game, Bowness can pull him and put Oettinger in the game.
