Sorry for the Survivor pun but its the only time that I will use it this season. The Dallas Stars were voted off the Island by Brock Nelson and the Islanders 3-2. Brock Nelson and Seymon Varlamov were just too much for the Stars to handle today. All the Stars can do now is watch the tape and get ready for the next game up on their schedule. Here’s what went down in their first trip to UBS Arena.
Dallas Stars vs New York Islanders: 1st period recap
This would be a typical feel it out period for both teams since they haven’t played each other this season. Jake Oettinger would be a brick wall in goal and not allow the Islanders to score a goal this period. Both the Stars and the Islanders would go into the first intermission scoreless.
Dallas Stars vs New York Islanders: 2nd period recap
The Stars got very active in the second continue to get shots on Varlamov, but each team got on the board with a goal in this period. Ryan Pulock would score the first goal of the game for the Islanders to make it 1-0. Denis Gurianov would score on a 2 on 1 breakaway with Jacob Peterson to tie the game at 1.
The Stars and Islanders would go into the second intermission tied at 1. The Stars would lead in shots on goal 22-15 and in the hits category 27-20. This was a pretty good period for the Stars altogether. Oettinger held down the fort except for that goal and the Stars responded with one of their own. Hopefully, they can continue this exceptional play in the final frame of the game.
Dallas Stars vs New York Islanders: 3rd period recap
Joe Pavelski almost took the lead in the first couple of minutes in the 3rd period. The Stars would go on the penalty early in third after Faksa interfered with Zach Parise. Brock Nelson would get the luckiest of puck bounces that went over Oettinger to make it 2-1 Islanders. Nelson would get another goal to make it 3-1.
Varlamov is just having one heck of a game between the pipes today for the Islanders as he keeps turning away the Stars shot attempts. Jacob Peterson would get the Stars back to a one goal deficit.
Stars would go on a power play shortly after the goal was scored. The Stars would fail to capitalize on the extra man advantage. Brock Nelson would get his hat trick on the empty net goal to make the final 4-2 Islanders. Quick turnaround as the Stars take on the Capitals tomorrow afternoon.
