The Dallas Stars have a very successful late night duck hunt as they are able to beat the Ducks 3-2. This was a huge victory as the Stars get two points and move back into the second wildcard spot temporarily. Find out who helped the Stars to victory in the game recap below.

Dallas Stars vs Anaheim Ducks: 1st period recap

Its great to see Miro Heiskanen back in the lineup after being out for a while due to mono. That disease takes a toll on an athletes body and for Miro to be back before the playoffs is a huge thing.

For the first half of the 1st period, both teams exchanged zones trying to get on the board. The Stars and the Ducks would be tied in the shots on goal category midway through the period. Radek Faksa would break his 40 game goal drought by squeezing in a puck past John Gibson to make it 1-0 Stars.

Alexander Radulov almost made it 2-0 on a 2 on 1 but would go off the pipe. At the end of the 1st period, the Stars are up 1-0 on the Anaheim Ducks. Stars lead in the shots on goal category 9-7 and also lead in hits 7-5.

Kind of a slow start to the game for the Stars, but they scored in the 1st period which was good to see. Hopefully we don’t see the dreaded “dump and chase” offense later on in the game.

Dallas Stars vs Anaheim Ducks: 2nd period recap

Well it looks like the Stars are back to being the “normal Stars” with the lead. Derek Grant would get the Ducks on the board 5 minutes into the 2nd period to tie it at 1. The Ducks look a lot more alive in the 2nd period as we reach the midway point of the period.

Troy Terry would fly into the Stars zone and give the Ducks the 2-1 lead. Gibson would keep stonewalling the Stars as they look to respond to the Ducks taking the lead. Stars would almost connect in front of Gibson but he poked the puck away and it was cleared.

Joe Pavelski would have a good chance to score after the Ducks turn it over in their zone, but Gibson would snag it with his glove. I actually thought it went in and was about to tweet that the Stars tied it late in the 2nd. Radulov would get the last shot attempt of the period but it would go off the top crossbar.

Ducks would take the lead going into the second intermission 2-1. Stars would lead in shots on goal 19-16 after the 2nd period. Stars had some good chances late in the period to tie it and possibly take the lead. They have to come out in the final frame and just let throw the puck to the front of the net and try to bang a rebound home.

Dallas Stars vs Anaheim Ducks: 3rd period recap

First 5 minutes of the period went by so quickly after all the shot attempts by both teams. Stars would go on the power play as they look to tie the game up at 2. I don’t know what Gibson ate before the game tonight, but the Stars can’t get a puck past him with all the shot attempts on the power play.

Roope Hintz would finally breakthrough “the forcefield” in front of Gibson as he ties the game up at 2. Hopefully, this will give the Stars offense some momentum for the remainder of the period.

Apperently Hintz’s goal did give the Stars offense some life, Jacob Peterson would score to give the Stars a much needed 3-2 lead. After these two goals, I guess John Gibson is human after all.

Hintz almost put the dagger in the coffin in the back of the net, but Gibson once again would completely stonewall him. Oettinger would stop the remaining shots from the Ducks as the Stars would go on to win 3-2. The Stars will be back at the Honda Center Thursday night to take on the Ducks once again but will be on ESPN+ instead of Bally Sports Southwest.
