It’s always nice to get a goal against your former team. Joe Pavelski would do just that as he would score against the Sharks and it helped the Dallas Stars to a 5-4 victory. The Star’s offense quickly got them out to a 4-1 lead and that helped tremendously as the Sharks almost came back to tie it. Here is what happened in the Shark Tank on Saturday night between the Stars and the Sharks

Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks: 1st period recap

Thomas Harley would start off the game by shooting a puck from the blue line and would land right in front of James Reimer. Nick Bonino would score the first goal of the game for the Sharks to give them a really early 1-0 lead. Vladislav Namestnikov would answer within a minute to tie the game at 1.

The Stars and Sharks would continue to trade shot opportunities after the first two goals of the game. Four minutes later, Jani Hakanpaa would blast one from the blue to give the Stars the lead 2-1. Hakanpaa was basically all alone near the blue line. John Klingberg would deflect one off his shin pad to make the lead 3-1 Stars.

That third goal by Dallas really silenced the Shark Tank which is music to my ears. It would also cause the Sharks to get more aggressive on offense as they would control the puck in the Stars zone for a good chunk of time.

Ryan Suter would almost tap one in front of the Reimer but wouldn’t see it in time as the puck would fly past him. Jason Robertson would score with .03 seconds left in the 1st period to make it 4-1 Stars going into first intermission. Stars have completely dominated the Sharks and the Shark Tank is super quiet now. Can’t complain about one thing in that period if you’re a Stars fan.

Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks: 2nd period recap

Sharks are showing their frustration as players are trying to initiate fights to start the 2nd period. Brent Burns would go to the box for slashing Hintz and the Stars would get a power play opportunity. Pavelski almost scored on his former team in front of the net on the power play.

The Sharks would kill off the penalty and the Stars would be 0-1 on the power play tonight. Burns would get a lucky bounce off a Stars skate to make it 4-2 Stars. Midway through the 2nd period, the Stars are starting their usual “Dump and Chase” Strategy with the lead. Also the Sharks finally tied the Stars in shots on goal at 19.

Joe Pavelski would get another attempt scoring against his former team but Reimer would swat the puck away. Near the end of the 2nd period, the puck landed right in front of Reimer and the Stars couldn’t get it past him.

At the end of the 2nd period, the Stars still have the lead against the Sharks 4-2. The momentum is starting to shift towards the Sharks. The Stars need to give it their all on defense if they want to get two points against their rivals.

Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks: 3rd period recap

The Stars would start the 3rd period on the penalty kill as Andrej Sekera would slash Timo Meier. They would kill the Sharks power play and make them 0-1 on the power play also tonight. Pavelski would finally get one on his former team with 12 minutes remaining in the game to make it 5-2 Stars.

John Leonard would try to get the Sharks back in it by scoring to make it 5-3 Stars. Sasha Chmelevski would get one with 1:30 remaining to make it a one goal deficit. The Stars would survive the late goal ambush to win 5-4 in San Jose. The Stars will return to action as they finish up the roadtrip tomorrow as they make their first visit to Seattle to take on the Kraken.
