The Nashville Predators put the pressure on the Dallas Stars tonight after beating the Chicago Blackhawks earlier today. The Stars rose to the occasion and reeled in one of the season’s biggest wins against the San Jose Sharks 2-1. It was a big win cause the Stars tied Nashville again for the first Wildcard spot in the Western Conference. Here is what went down at the AAC Saturday night if you missed the game due to being with family on Easter weekend.
Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks: 1st Period Recap
Tyler Seguin would start the game off by getting a shot on San Jose’s Kappo Kahkonen. Tomas Hertl would return the favor by testing Jake Oettinger early as well. Stars would also have a hard time clearing the puck out of their zone early on in the game.
Marian Studenic would have a good chance early on to stuff one past Kahkonen but would not be able to. Tyler Seguin would open up the scoring as he gave the Stars an early 1-0 lead. This is what happens when you constantly put pressure on your opponents early.

After the Dallas goal, Oettinger would get tested multiple times by San Jose and would stop them all. Stars can’t get comfy with a 1-0 lead, got to keep up the defense and continue to score. Late in the 1st period, it seems like both teams are having a hard time setting up in each other’s zone.
At the end of the 1st period, the Stars have a 1-0 lead. Sharks and the Stars are pretty much even in shots on goal 9-8. Outstanding period for the Stars as they got pressure on San Jose early and it resulted in a Seguin goal.
Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks: 2nd Period Recap
Stars would have a good chance to get a 2-0 lead after the puck trickles past Kahkonen. Sharks Jasper Wheatherby would go sit for two minutes for holding Peterson’s stick. The Stars would get some good attempts on the power play, but wouldn’t score on any of them. Power play would expire and the Stars would be 0-1 on the extra man advantage.
Oettinger would have the best save of the night as he would save Noah Gregor’s shot with his skate blade. He would then follow up with an amazing save on a Sharks 2-on-1 opportunity.
Jacob Peterson would send the Stars on the penalty kill for tripping Ryan Merkley in front of the ref. Michael Raffl would send a one timer past () to give the Stars a 2-0 lead. He finally gets a goal after all the short-handed opportunities he’s had.
Timo Meier would end Oettinger’s shutout bid in the final minute of the 2nd period to cut the Star’s lead back to one. At the end of the 2nd period, the Stars lead the Sharks 2-1. The Stars lead in the shots on goal 18-17. That late Sharks goal might have swung the momentum to them. Stars need to come out in the 3rd and send their hopes to the bottom of the ocean.
Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks: 3rd Period Recap
Jason Robertson would get two shot attempts on the Sharks to start the 3rd period. Oettinger would make a stop on Hertl breakaway attempt to keep the Sharks down one goal. Robertson would get a third shot attempt in the first 4 minutes of this period.
The Sharks would get a lot of time in the Stars zone as they can’t clear the puck. Midway through the 3rd period, the Sharks have dominated the puck possession. Stars need to burn some time in the Shark’s zone and burn some clock.
Studenic would make a fantastic defensive play in the Stars zone to help clear the puck. Stars need to keep up the defense on the Sharks as they are starting to get desperate for a goal. The Sharks smell blood in the water and the Stars need to scare them away.
Stars would go on the penalty kill with 5 minutes left as Jason Robertson hooked Gregor. Sharks would get a quick shot on the power play but then struggle to get back into the Star’s zone. Stars would kill off the penalty and would go back to even strength.
Sharks would pull their goalie to get the extra man advantage under two minutes remaining in the period. Oettinger would pull off another amazing save with everyone crowding around him to keep the Sharks from scoring.
The Stars would go on to win 2-1 against the San Jose Sharks to tie the Nashville Predators in the standings again. Stars hit the road one more time in the regular season as they travel to Canada and take on the Vancouver Canucks Monday night.
