Dallas Stars force game 7 against the Flames with a 4-2 victory

The Dallas Stars entered Friday night’s game with an ultimatum. With a win, they force a Game 7 in Calgary, or If they lost, their season would be over and the Flames would advance. The Stars fans stood behind their team and it helped the Stars to a 4-2 victory. It was good to see offense coming from all the lines instead of the Avengers line. Here is what happened in the Stars do or die game at the American Airlines Center Friday night.

Dallas Stars vs Calgary Flames Game 6: 1st period recap

The Dallas Stars kept the same lines from game 5 except for a few changes. The Stars came out of the gate strong showing the Flames they weren’t going to be able to walk into the AAC and win. Rick Bowness did have to make a line change in the 1st period as he put the Avengers line back together to try and spark some offense.

Jake Oettinger was also phenomenal as well making sure Calgary couldn’t swing the momentum their way early in this game. Roope Hintz would score the first goal of the game to give the Stars a 1-0 lead in the 1st period. It would be a lie if I told you that goal didn’t energize the crowd.

At the end of the 1st period, the Stars would lead the Calgary Flames 1-0. The Flames would lead in the shots on goal category 19-10. Kind of a slow start but the Stars have the momentum after the 1st period. Could they keep this going to give Stars fans at least one more game this season?

Dallas Stars vs Calgary Flames Game 6: 2nd period recap

The Stars would get another goal after Luke Glendening got targeted and had to leave the game due to concussion protocol. Michael Raffl would take his own rebound and put it past Jacob Markstrom for a 2-0 lead.

The Flames would respond with a Michael Stone goal on a poor defensive effort at center ice. Mikael Backlund would tie the game up shortly after their power play expired.

In the final minutes of the middle frame, Miro Heiskanen would use a couple of bodies as a screen to score his first of the postseason.

The Stars would end up taking a 3-2 lead going into the final intermission of this game. The Stars and the Flames would be tied in shots on goal with 27 each. Dallas would lead in total hits 21-14. That was a wild 2nd period and somehow the Stars managed to end up on top at the end. Let’s see if they force a Game 7 on Sunday night or will they be scheduling their summer tee times.

Dallas Stars vs Calgary Flames Game 6: 3rd period recap

The Dallas Stars stood tall in this period as the Calgary Flames really put the pressure on the Stars’ defense. Jake Oettinger was amazing and helped keep the Stars one goal lead. The Flames would pull Markstrom with a minute to go and Tyler Seguin would score the empty-net goal. The Stars would go on to win with a 4-2 victory over the Flames as the Stars head to Calgary for the do-or-die game 7 on Sunday night.
