Well, Dallas Stars fans are probably not going to be happy with the news that broke on Sunday night. It was reported by Hockey Night in Canada Analyst Elliotte Friedman that Dallas is about to name former Vegas Golden Knights coach Peter DeBoer the 25th head coach of the Dallas Stars.

DeBoer had a decent career coaching the Vegas Golden Knights going 98-50-12 in the three years as the head coach. He also coached them to the Western Conference Finals two times in three years which is pretty remarkable. One of the things on Jim Nill’s checklist was someone who can coach deep into the playoffs.

I know some Dallas Stars fans have already gone on Twitter to voice their opinions on the hire Jim Nill made. It might not be the flashiest head coaching hire he could have made, but at least he didn’t jump on the Barry Trotz or Jim Tortorella bandwagon early to get the search over with quickly. Jim Nill did say he was going to look for a veteran coach to take over in Dallas. I think Peter DeBoer will do a good job in Dallas and help us go deep in the playoffs.

The only thing I hope that Jim Nill told him before he hired him was that Jake Oettinger is the future goaltender in Dallas whether he likes it or not. Hopefully, Oettinger was brought in on that phone call and he gave his blessing. The last thing the Stars need is having another Robin Lehner scenario like last season between him and Oettinger.

I can’t wait to see how the Stars are under DeBoer during training camp and preseason. Hopefully, Wyatt Johnson and Logan Stankoven make a good enough impression to make the squad this fall. Maybe DeBoer will surprise some of you and have a good tenure here with the Stars.
