Dallas Stars NHL Draft Selection Round 5 Pick 147: Maxim Mayorov, Goaltender, Ladia Togliatti (MHL)

This is the second to last draft pick from the Stars and hopefully Nill got enough defenseman in this draft to last him for a little bit. The Stars went in a different direction with this pick to another position that really needs some attention. The Stars drafted goaltender Maxim Mayorov in the 5th round with the 147th pick.

Mayorov posted a 14-10-2 record and a .931 save percentage in 32 games with Lydia Togliatti this past season. What really intrigues me a lot about him is his 6’6 size as a goaltender. If you want a player comparison for him, just picture the Stars drafting an 18 year old prime Andrei Vasilevskiy.

I actually like the pick and give it a A, I can really see him backing up Oettinger in a couple of years. With a goaltender with his size as your backup, I bet you Otter is breathing a sigh of relief that he can share the workload with Mayorov in a couple of years.
