Finally after all the months of waiting during this offseason, the Stars cross one thing off their priority list. That thing is signing Jake Oettinger to a three year extension to keep him in Dallas through the end of the 2024-25 season. Stars’ fans across the world are probably letting out a huge sigh of relief. I’m surprised it took this long to comprise on a bridge type deal but both sides compromised and made it official today.

Jake Oettinger: His New Contract

So Jake Oettinger signed a three year deal worth four million a season. This is a really good deal for the Stars as they get to keep one of the best young goaltenders in the league. The good news is when the new contract is up there will be plenty of space to sign him to a new extension. The Athletic Dallas Stars Reporter Saad Yousuf broke down which players contracts are up in 2025.

Jake Oettinger: What Is Next For The Stars

The next thing that the Stars need to really focus on is getting their other Restricted Free Agent Jason Robertson signed to a new extension. Things just got a tad complicated a couple of days ago as Tage Thompson signed a huge extension to stay in Buffalo.

Robertson is probably going to try and push a bridge deal based on the average of Thompson’s extension. The Stars are probably going to have to move Khudobin or someone else to make that possible. I’m sure Robertson and the Stars will negotiate and get it done before training camp starts.

As I wrap this article, the good news out of all of this is Nill was good on his word and got the Oettinger extension done. If he can get the Robertson bridge deal done soon, Nill will have fulfilled his promise getting these two young superstars under new contracts.
