In what was the most complete game the Dallas Stars have played this preseason, They beat the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night by a final score of 5-2. Five different players scored goals in Kansas City Saturday night. Finally, one of the top Stars prospects, Wyatt Johnston, scored a goal for the team. Pete DeBoer and his coaching staff have to be pleased with the way the Stars played on Saturday night. There were 3 things that really stood out during the game. Let’s find out what those things are below.
Dallas Stars vs St. Louis Blues Recap: 3. Will Butcher is looking very good
I think Dallas Stars fans are going to fall in love with Will Butcher. He has played very well this preseason and had three assists in this game. He also is playing with a level of aggressiveness that has caught the attention of Peter DeBoer. He signed to a one-year, two-way deal with the Stars this offseason, so if he does well down at Cedar Park this season, no one can poach him on the way up to Dallas. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets another deal from the Stars after this season.
Dallas Stars vs St. Louis Blues Recap: 2. Mason Marchment could have a career season
Mason Marchment looked very good as well in the win against the Blues. I don’t want to jinx anything but he might be among the top 5 goal scorers of the Dallas Stars this season. He’s shown in preseason games that he has improved his all-around game during the offseason. If he racks up the goals this season for the Stars, his contract will be the bargain of the offseason.
Dallas Stars vs St. Louis Blues Recap: 1. Logan Stankoven and Wyatt Johnston could both make the team this season
Both Stankoven and Johnston are both fighting for one of the roster spots that the Stars have open right now. However based on how they played on Saturday night, both might make the roster. I wouldn’t be surprised if Wyatt Johnston got his nine games to determine whether he goes back to the Windsor Spitfires. Right now I would say Stankoven has a slight edge over Johnston right now. Nill might be forced to trade a couple of players to make room for both if they keep playing at the level they are right now.
