The Dallas Stars look to wrap up their trip through Canada on a good note as they take on the Ottawa Senators tonight. The Stars have shown in most of their games so far that they can score goals as they have scored four or more goals in  four out of the first five games. The Stars can’t take the Senators lightly as they have reloaded their entire roster. Players such as Claude Giroux joined the Senators over the offseason. Here are the keys to the game tonight against the Senators.

Dallas Stars vs Ottawa Senators Preview: 3. Be prepared for their improved roster

The Ottawa Senators have really improved their roster over the offseason. As I mentioned above, they have added some big names through trades and free agent signings. The Stars can’t come into this game with the mindset of this game will be a walk in the park. I expect a fight coming out of this years Senators team.

Dallas Stars vs Ottawa Senators Preview: 2. Start Oettinger tonight, rest him against Boston

I would expect Jake Oettinger to start tonight against the Senators. Right now, he is playing some of his best hockey and Stars fans are expecting him to be in the Vezina Trophy race. With the Stars having a quick turnaround for Boston Tuesday, it would be best to start Wedgewood against the Bruins. You don’t want to run Oettinger into the ground to the point where he’s exhausted for postseason play if the Stars make it.

Dallas Stars vs Ottawa Senators Preview: 1. No turnovers in transition

The Stars need to watch how they play the puck in transition against the Senators. Denis Gurianov made this mistake against Montreal where he turned over the puck on a pass from behind the net.  The Stars need to clean this up if they want to be a good hockey team this season. If the Stars can limit the turnovers against Ottawa, the better chance they come out of this game with a win.
