Dallas Stars Get Destroyed By The Rangers Offense in the Third Period 6-3
When fan favorite Jake Oettinger left the game in the 2nd period, you could hear a pin drop in the American Airlines Center. Everything went wrong for the Dallas Stars after that in the 6-3 loss to the New York Rangers. It’s like the Stars went to a funeral service for Otter and forgot there was still half a game to be played. Instead of resting, the Stars need to regroup tomorrow and find out if they need to call up Adam Scheel or Anton Khudobin. Here are the three main takeaways from the Stars loss to the Rangers.
Dallas Stars vs New York Rangers Recap: 3. Pray Otter is okay
The Dallas Stars front office is praying that everything will be okay for Jake Oettinger. After watching that third period today, they need him desperately. So far this season, he hasn’t allowed more than two goals a game which is a good thing. The only issue is the Stars have two goaltenders that are on NHL contracts right now: Anton Kudobin and Adam Scheel. If Khudobin gets called up, this might have been Wyatt Johnston’s last game in a Stars uniform this season.
Dallas Stars vs New York Rangers Recap: 2. Wedgewood needs to get it together
If Scott Wedgewood would like to remain the backup goaltender to Jake Oettinger, he has to play better. He can’t come barging out from between the pipes to play the puck like that ever again. We will most likely need him at his best in these upcoming games next week if Otter isn’t good to go. Here’s the goal he gave up if you would like to watch it again. If he continues to play as he did in the third period, I’d start looking for another backup goaltender for Jake Oettinger.
Dallas Stars vs New York Rangers Recap: 1. Does anyone other than Pavelski and Sons like to chip in on offense?
Tyler Seguin, Mason Marchment, and Denis Gurianov are exempt today since their line got the early lead. Jamie Benn’s line and Radek Faksa’s line have got to get going in the goal department. We can’t rely on the top two lines to carry the load this season. Pete DeBoer likes it when all his lines get in the scoring action. We can’t revert back to Pavelski and Sons getting all the goals like last season. The Stars have to get over Oettinger being out for a short time and turn it around against the Kings.
