After displaying complete domination of the Coyotes on Arizona State’s campus Thursday night. The Dallas Stars head up north to take on the Edmonton Oilers. The Stars have to be ready for the Oilers since they are better than the Arizona Coyotes. Connor McDavid is having a great start to his season and looks to take advantage with Scott Wedgewood between the pipes Saturday night. Here are the three keys to the game for the Stars if they want to win.

Dallas Stars vs Edmonton Oilers Preview: 3. Have to stop Connor McDavid

The Stars have a huge task at hand trying to keep McDavid from scoring goals Saturday night. He already has 12 goals this season and I don’t think he wants to stop there. The defense has to be sharp and make sure where he is at all times when he’s on the ice. The last thing that you want to see is McDavid sneak right up aside Wedgewood and get an easy deflection for a goal. Once he scores a goal, more than likely you will see him on the tally sheet once again later in the game.

Dallas Stars vs Edmonton Oilers Preview: 2. Capitalize on the power play

The Stars have been doing good capitalizing on the extra-man advantage this past couple of games. As I pointed out in the Coyotes recap article since Miro has been inserted into the power play, they have scored four out of the last eight times in the last two games. Stars have to punish their foes for committing penalties and it has to continue especially against the Oilers.

Dallas Stars vs Edmonton Oilers Preview: 1. Protect Wedgewood

The Stars really need to protect Wedgewood tonight against the Oilers. They know Jake Oettinger isn’t playing tonight so they will try to steal a game from us while he is out. Wedgewood has been a good goaltender when the defense has helped out and not stood around looking around. The Stars can win this game but only if the defense does its job and shuts down McDavid and their offense.
