I wonder how many of the Stars fans had 13 goals in two games on their bingo card for this season? After winning 7-2 down in Arizona on Thursday night, the Dallas Stars beat the Edmonton Oilers 6-2 on Saturday afternoon. Once again the defense helped out Scott Wedgewood who is taking over duties for injured goaltender Jake Oettinger. While there were many good things that happened yesterday, here are three things that really stood out.

Dallas Stars vs Edmonton Oilers recap: 3. Jamie Benn resurgence?

It’s a good question to think about since he has four goals in two games. Jamie Benn recorded his seventh hat trick with the Dallas Stars against the Oilers. Jamie Benn saw a decrease in goals under Rick Bowness’s system. All of a sudden in these last two games, it looks like vintage Jamie Benn is back. I don’t know what Dallas Stars coach Pete DeBoer has done behind the scenes working with him. Whatever they worked on helped unlock another scoring threat for the Stars.

Dallas Stars vs Edmonton Oilers recap: 2. Stars defense shuts down McDavid

One of the big things that really surprised me on Saturday was how the defense was locked in on Connor McDavid. For those who are new to hockey and to the Stars fanbase, Connor McDavid is a scoring threat when he touches the puck. With Scott Wedgewood in between the pipes today, I thought he would get at least a goal. This just shows how much this defense has improved since last season under Rick Bowness.

Dallas Stars vs Edmonton Oilers recap: 1. Next man up mentality

The Stars have shown the league the last three games that they can take care of business down a man. They have really stepped up in Jake Oettinger’s absence to keep control of first place in the Central Division. If Jake Oettinger needs more than a week to heal up from his injury, I’d be fine with that based on how the team is playing now. The Stars have two days off before they go up against their former coach in Winnipeg Tuesday night.
