The Dallas Stars return home after a successful road trip to take on the New York Islanders. The Stars are coming off a road trip where they picked up 5 out of 6 points which was more than fans expected. With Scott Wedgewood hitting the IR for the foreseeable future, Jake Oettinger will be your starting goaltender. Texas Stars goaltender Matt Murray will more than likely be called down to become the backup goaltender. Here are the three keys to the game for the Stars.
Dallas Stars vs New York Islanders Preview: 3. Defense!
The Stars almost ended up becoming the laughingstock of the NHL last night letting the Panthers back into the game. I can’t emphasize how much they need to help Oettinger in their zone. Got to cut down on the countless turnovers in our own zone. Also, they need to stay out of the box. the Panthers capitalized on the power play a couple of times last night and got back into the game. Let’s get back to the days of winning games 5-2 and shutting down the other team completely.
Dallas Stars vs New York Islanders Preview: 2. Get out to a quick lead
Like in the game against the Panthers, the Stars need to get out to another huge lead early. It’s important to do so since the Islanders have some good players that can score. Brock Nelson and Anders Lee are just two of the Islanders that can take a game over quickly if allowed. Hopefully, Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz can extend their point streak to eleven today.
Dallas Stars vs New York Islanders Preview: 1. Defend home ice
The Stars need to come out and defend home ice for the next four games starting this afternoon. It’s not often that the NHL will give you a week and some change at home so take advantage of it. If the Stars can feed off the crowd energy and get pucks into the net, We should be able to sweep this homestand.
